The fascists are making climate change worse, and when climate disasters cause migration, they will use it as an excuse for more fascist policies.

Introducing the Earth's energy imbalance to these discussions is a step in the right direction. The data suggests surface warming is accelerating, with knock on effects on storm size and frequency, sea-level rise and ice-sheet loss. We need to knuckle down and #decarbonise faster #climatecrisis

4/4 Embracing #bullshit machines (#AI) in University is the antithesis of Paidea – the ancient Greek notion of educating the ‘whole’ individual, for which a strong character, built on ethics, critical acumen and empathy was essential. This used to be the role of #Academia. How far have we fallen.

3/4 Large Language Models (#AI) have no concept of truth. They are #bullshit machines (h/t to @carlbergstrom.com). #History teaches us that embracing entities with no concept of the truth and letting them run our lives is never a good idea.

Yeah, interesting times ahead. I expect to see quite a bit of development in this area the next couple of years or so. A return of ice to the British Isles would be a blast from the past, wouldn't it now.

No, there are however with the work that prompted the development of the tool: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/..., by the same team. 10-30 C over a century is the range of impacts quoted. I opted for being conservative.

I think the best thing about that picture is the MtG card used as a bookmark.
