Swiss Re warns “extreme heat poses a growing threat to the insurance industry” with “annual losses of $404-448 billion” just to corporate fixed assets of listed companies by 2035.

We should all be disgusted by the flood of anti-Muslim remarks spewed in the aftermath of Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the NYC mayoral primary — some blatant, others latent. Shame on the members of Congress who have engaged in such bigotry and anyone who doesn’t challenge it.

Here at the DART pre-Public Hearing community meeting for feedback on next year’s proposed fare increases and service cuts. 67 people here at Akard to give what will likely be scathing remarks on the service cuts.

New in PN: The MAGA mind virus "77 million Americans surrendered moments of shared humanity when they put Trump back in the White House. The tragedies that once united Americans now only further divide us. No one, including his supporters, should have expected anything else."

2025-06-28: Max’s #Caturday plans are falling into place quite nicely so far.

The report also includes whistleblower testimony that DART expected cities to recoup their investment in public transit by planning and building around it, sparking outrage from suburban city leaders. “We expected the train be able to pop off the tracks and pick people up from their subdivision.”

Holy shit

"While other people my age were breezing through life in medical school or spending their own paycheck buying supplies for their classrooms, I was in the trenches working for political candidates deemed too unsavory for even Steve Bannon."

If I were a hero I think I would probably not be happy to know that my name had replaced another guy’s entirely because the secretary of defense hates gay people

“You know what would help a lot? Some elite disapproval—publicly and boldly expressed. While a successful democracy depends on some degree of reasonableness from voters, a successful liberal democracy also depends on responsibility and even courage from elites.” www.thebulwark.com/p/the-public...

People will die. Rural hospitals will close. Children will starve. The Republican tax scam slashes our social safety programs AND adds 2.8 TRILLION to our nations’ debt just to pay for more tax breaks for billionaires. chicago.suntimes.com/health/2025/...

Supremes say parents can opt out of letting their kids listen to LGBTQ stories. Can parents similarly opt out of kids listening to stories that DON'T have LGBTQ themes or incidents? 🤣

kind of funny that americans think that once you become mayor, you can just enact sharia law. like zero understanding of the legislative process. just raise your hand and say "ok it's sharia time now"

This. Look the next 12 years will NOT be like the previous 25. The gloves are off. Either we get a New Deal 2.0 with massive redress of grievances or they win. That's it. If the former, the Republican party won't be in a position to pack a court for a generation. That should be our full aim.

Clarence Thomas with an anti-pornography ruling, and you thought personal growth wasn't possible

This administration is pursuing a white supremacist project—attacking birthright citizenship, gutting DEI, welcoming white S. Africans under the guise of “white genocide,” and brutalizing brown folks who’ve contributed to this country for decades. We must fight this project relentlessly.

Pack the Court. If we are serious about the defense of these rights, we pack the Court. Simple as that. They pack it back, we pack it again. We do it until we reach consensus on long-term reforms to the judiciary. I don't know what it's going to take for people to get it.

Wow was that fast--an immigrant advocate group already filed an amended complaint seeking class action relief in its birthright citizenship case in federal court in Maryland

it is the Imperial Judiciary when courts say that presidents can’t unilaterally overturn constitutional text, and the Proper Order of Things when courts say that your rights rest on the whims of who happens to be in office

there is no jurisprudence at work here. the republican court believes that anything a republican president is presumptively constitutional, even if it directly violates the unambiguous constitutional text and causes total chaos in law and policy.

Are we starting to see the first signs in official data of tariff-fueled inflation?

Every right winger's kid now

The left better start figuring out how to weaponize today's decision rather than just (rightfully) criticizing it. - Go back into Judge Kaczmaryk's court to dissolve all of his nationwide orders. - Pass gun bans and insist any order applies only to plaintiffs.

We found that a 2006 Children’s Health Defense (CHD) article and the 2025 ACIP presentation share extensive textual overlap. The CDC slides don’t just echo CHD’s claims—they replicate them, word for word in some cases, along with many of the same citations. infoepi.substack.com/p/gold-stan... 1/10

Rob Sand, Dem candidate running for Governor in Iowa on school choice.

Generational change is coming: Since Zohran Mamdani won on Tuesday night, more than 1100 young people have reached out to @runforsomething.net to explore a run for local office -- one of our biggest spikes of the year yet.

I can’t believe how many people tried to argue Trump wasn’t conflating seeking asylum and asylums.

Some people think this is an exaggeration but I will say that if I were HHS Secretary and my goal were to kill as many children as possible, it would be difficult to distinguish the actions I would take from those that Kennedy has taken.

This is going to be the start of a Plaque Appreciation Thread. Any Member of Congress doing Plaque stuff, lmk and I will thread it.

This is a wonky process but BIG news regarding the Republican budget bill: My staff successfully got multiple provisions removed from the bill. Two key wins: 1) Medicaid provider tax. Striking this means Republicans have to backtrack on hundreds of billions in Medicaid cuts.

🚨 The Senate parliamentarian just disqualified a bunch of provisions from the GOP bill — including Medicaid provider tax language, funding restrictions based on immigration status, spread pricing and one prohibition on gender-affirming care. List via a Democratic budget aide:

If we trust genetic engineering to save a child from leukemia, why reject it when it could save a child from blindness, malnutrition, or death? We cure cancer with genetic engineering but ban it on the farm. Celebrating one but demonizing the other fuels disinformation that costs lives. 1/

Crockett: The First Lady, a model— when I say model I’m not talking about Tyra Banks, Cindy Crawford, or Naomi Campbell level— applied for an Einstein visa. You’re supposed to have some sort of significant achievement… She had none of those. It doesn’t take an Einstein to see the math ain’t mathin

Thanks for your vote of confidence…I guess?! Unlike you, I’d actually be focused on the American people—the issues they’re facing, making sure folks have healthcare, and consulting with Congress before dropping bombs on another country.

We have seriously lost our way as a country. www.nola.com/news/politic...
