Republicans just voted NO to saving health care for MILLIONS of people. @wyden.senate.gov demanded that the Senate remove every single Medicaid cut from this bill because we believe no baby should go hungry so Jeff Bezos can buy another yacht. Hear that again: Republicans voted NO.

Democrats just forced a vote to cut every part of this bill that would hurt rural hospitals. It's a no-brainer — but Republicans voted NO and shut it down. Republicans are FORCING hospitals to cut their services and close their doors to fund giant handouts for billionaires.

and here's the thing, friends, it's crazy to imagine it but we all grow elderly and infirm eventually. wouldn't it be fucking wild if we, collectively, as a society, through some form of "government", dealt with that reality with compassion and empathy.

senator bat boy (R-insurance fraud) isn't even good at politics, the last time leadership gave him what he wanted, he lost the senate

If the Maryland court certifies this class and grants the relief, it would lead to the same impact as a nationwide injunction; the birthright citizenship EO would be blocked entirely.

Justice Jackson in dissent: "The Court's decision to permit the Executive to violate the Constitution with respect to anyone who has not yet sued is an existential threat to the rule of law."

This is why the messaging of politicians like Mamdani is so triggering to conservatives. His message is a) "don't be a bigot and let people who are different from you live their lives freely" and b) "the majority of you face structural problems that gov't can help alleviate." MUST BE COMMUNISM!

i also think that it is only a matter of time before this court rewrites section 1 of the 14th to effectively end birthright citizenship. the 14th amendment is the chief obstacle to a legal regime of tiered citizenship and subordinate castes, and they will not let it stand.

as for the upshot of the decision, the republican court has put the citizen children of non-citizens in a position similar to that of free blacks during the antebellum period. their right to enjoy the privileges and immunities of american citizenship will vary according to state borders

and vice versa, the republican court believes that anything a democratic president does is presumptively unconstitutional, even if it past precedent would say otherwise

- Religious exception rulings apply only to the plaintiffs. - Environmental regulations continue to be enforced despite rulings against them (just not against plaintiffs). - and on and on. The left has to use this decision, not just criticize it. It'll be chaos, but that's what the Justices get.

From Sotomayor's dissent, which she's now reading from the bench: "The President has made a 'solemn mockery' of our Constitution. Rather than stand firm, the Court gives way. Because such complicity should know no place in our system of law, I dissent." www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...
