Not sure how much I'll actually post here, but follow if you want. I'm into math, science, engineering, sustainability, and generally how the world works and trying to make it better. I support LGBTQIA+ rights and have little patience for those who don't.

It's not that you're overthinking so much as they're underthinking.

Notably, 17 states also only allow the sale of hard liquor in state-run ABC stores and not privately owned retailers. Assholes gonna asshole tho.

I just think leftish folks get used to talking to our own kind and we assume a baseline understanding. We end up talking past the kind of people Trump manages to influence. It can be frustrating but I don't think any amount of defining things and asking "what do you mean by that?" will ever be bad.

My conservative mother was complaining about her Fox News idea of DEI and she said diversity of experience and thought is hugely important in teams. I was like yeah, DEI, that's what it's all about. That's, like, the whole thing.

Bro, you're not gonna believe this. Donald Trump the actor is in charge again. He has no idea what he's doing but apparently nobody can stop him.

The basis for every Trump attack on anything is just that he wants to do a fascism. There is no real argument. He can only do this shit if people let him. Stand up to bullies, always. They are weaker than they make themselves out to be. Be like Maine.

This is a terrible poll. All of the answers are true. It was a Nazi salute from the heart. He meant it genuinely but he was also trolling. Racists often make racist "jokes" that they actually literally believe.

Oh look, it's this guy again, from a screenshot I saved a week ago. Interesting that every time I see a pro-trump/musk gathering it's the same small group of people.

Maybe it's the ol' double-fake and they expect their recs to count against him because they're Democrats.
I mean, that's not what's happening, but it wouldn't be the most insane political strategy I've seen. Wouldn't even make the weekly top 10 at this point.

"Get a real job" says the guy who has never had or needed a real job, to a crowd at a protest specifically scheduled for the weekend so fewer people would have to work.

Ah, then we're in full agreement. There are far too many things for which there's no real counterargument and we should just be doing them, yet it's somehow become politically fashionable to oppose them.
I'm so tired.

Electricity is a much more robust way to move energy around than fossil fuels. There are many ways to generate electricity but really only one way to get gasoline. In a local outage, I can even use my car as an energy bucket to power my home by plugging into the grid somewhere else for a few mins.

I was surprised so many wanted that ugly thing even in theory. But yeah, not surprising when they announced details a lot of people flaked. Full steer by wire that doesn't work if the truck loses power for any reason is an amazingly dumb idea.

Any time someone uses DEI hire as an insult, I wonder how they consistently remember to breathe. It should hurt to be that stupid.

I suspect he knows more than he's letting on and is feigning ignorance as a defense, as fascists often do. It shouldn't matter. (Figurative) heads must roll regardless, but they probably won't if the admin can move on to the next disaster fast enough. But also a secret second thing should happen.

The bar is incredibly low at this point, in fact it's embedded and flush with the the ground. But good job SCOTUS, you did it, you cleared it without tripping today.

I'm not sure that it is false. He has for sure been chauffeured most places his entire life. I wouldn't be surprised if someone else put the handful of miles on his collector cars. He's definitely no Jay Leno.

Presidents typically aren't allowed to drive themselves, though exceptions have been made on closed test tracks. Trump used to have some Ferraris and stuff, and he drove them about as much as a typical Ferrari owner (his F430 went to auction with 10k on it).

You know who spoke to me as a young man? Obama. Say what you want about his presidency, but as a candidate he had good ideas and a plan to implement them, and he made a point of saying he can't do it alone. There are Dem congresspeople like that today and they're routinely sidelined by the party.

Study assessing the likelihood of a noncrash fire loss as a function of vehicle age. Relevant chart snipped here.

2018 study of noncrash fires in all 2016-2018 models (i.e. age-controlled). Tesla was the only major EV manufacturer in this period other than Nissan (LEAF) and did not do great, but some models did worse, notably a few Dodges.

Everyone is wrong about this. A blog claimed NTSB found ICE cars are 60x more likely to catch fire than EVs but did not link a source. IIHS-HLDI's research is the best I've found and, controlling for vehicle age, gas and electric cars are about 1:1 in noncrash fires. Age is the biggest determinant.

His wealth is highly leveraged and he's spending it like it isn't. Poor enough sales will bankrupt Tesla, which he used as collateral to buy Twitter which is also worthless. Any lender that doesn't margin call him at that point deserves to get hurt too.

Maybe not Congress yet, but I hope you and other smart, sane people on here will consider running for state or local office soon. Even if you never run for national office, we need a deep bench. State and local work matters a lot.
