Each month we release a video performance of a piece of music which has featured in a @thursdaylive.org recital at @stchadsbirm.bsky.social Birmingham. It’s a great opportunity to see what we do at the console which is hidden up in the organ gallery!

If you are an organist, organ builder, or just a pipe organ aficionado, here's a good place to start on Bluesky! go.bsky.app/NpCGD1Y

Marking the centenary of the death of Marco Enrico Bossi, here is his Etude Symphonique recorded in 2021. This single-take performance was recorded at the end of a session in which the (then online-only) @thursdaylive.org recital had been filmed in @stchadsbirm.bsky.social. youtu.be/0ehStsc4brU?...

We have a new Pope! Archbishop Bernard shares a welcome message...

Details of Thierry Pallesco’s Fantaisie no.6 which I premiered in March’s @thursdaylive.org in @stchadsbirm.bsky.social. With huge thanks to Thierry Pallesco for writing inspiring music and to United Music Publishing Ltd for publishing new organ music. www.paulcarr.co.uk/thierry-pall...

Very pleased and relieved to have our little cat sitting back on my lap purring away after a day of feline dental work. She seems fine, and in much better condition than my wallet, though undeniably worth every penny. 🐈‍⬛

That was a lot of fun! First summer term rehearsal lived up to its name - a beautifully warm evening enjoying singing great music. More next Monday, though as it’s a Bank Holiday the weather and warmth are not guaranteed.

An honour to play for Solemn Vespers this evening at St Chad’s Cathedral @stchadsbirm.bsky.social on the day of Pope Francis’ funeral.

Another stunning recital today, this time by Charles Francis at @stchadsbirm.bsky.social hosted by Kent County Organists Association. Exciting, flawless and passionate playing! …and Nathan Laube (see previous post) was also in the audience!

Enjoyed a simply stunning recital in the organ studio @royalbirmcons.bsky.social yesterday evening given by the incomparable Nathan Laube, artistry, virtuosity and style in abundance!

Experiencing a perhaps unnecessary amount of joy in discovering the (now very obvious) button which tells my printer to print on both sides of the paper! No more printing one-sided and putting it back in the paper tray, realising it’s upside down, etc. Not a bad Monday morning at the desk at all!

TODAY! 1:15pm @stchadsbirm.bsky.social Paul Carr @organistpaul.bsky.social plays March’s thursdaylive.org on the fantastic Walker organ. Admission free with retiring collection. All very welcome!

2nd March is the Feast of St Chad. In St Chad’s Cathedral it will today be kept as a Solemnity as a Patronal Feast of a Saint overrides a Sunday of Ordinary Time. Most years it falls during Lent. Although in most of our parishes, the Sunday is celebrated, May St Chad pray for us.

Good rehearsal with @sellyparksingers.co.uk last night, these three movements coming along nicely. So if you’re around the Midlands in June, perhaps make a note in your diary now? Concert: Sat 14 June 2025 at 3pm in St Francis Bournville. The Birmingham premiere of this piece! More details soon. 😎

Wonderful weekend singing in @salisburycathedral.bsky.social accompanied by the amazing @organistpaul.bsky.social

It’s been a long wait, since the (other) 2019 fire, to hear the glorious sounds of the landmark instrument in St John the Divine, New York, New York. It was worth the wait. A little longer to wait until the famous State Trumpet returns under the rose window though. youtu.be/1QjGSiMNHAs?...

The Father Willis organ of Salisbury Cathedral is extremely fine. Really enjoyed getting reacquainted with it this morning preparing for playing at the weekend’s services, which started with this evening’s Choral Evensong.
