Facebook is hilarious

According to South Bend broadcaster Brendan King, Tyler Schlaffer throwing 100 pitches today was just the 4th time that has ever been done since the franchise became a Cubs affiliate. There’s now been two 100+ pitch performances in the last 2 weeks after having zero the last 4 years.

Another ABSURD outing from Tyler Schlaffer this afternoon as he strikes out 10 over 7 one-hit innings and 100 pitches. His last 5 starts for South Bend: 34 IP, 12 H, 2 ER, 12 BB, 35 K

Lots of new broadcast voices in the system this year but I’ve gotta say, when you turn on a Cubs affiliate, you still get an absolute master class everywhere you look.

Outside of the extraordinarily young Triple-A lineup, the Cubs have only 2 prospects that are more than a year younger than the average hitter at their respective level: Pedro Ramirez (21.2 years old in AA) Jefferson Rojas (20.1 years old in A+)

Matt Shaw is still 3 years younger than the average hitter… in Triple-A

Drew Gray made another rehab start in Arizona, going 4 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 8 K. The South Bend Cubs currently have a TBA listed as Sunday’s starting pitcher…

Why did Nolan Arenado watch the ball go by him and then just stand there instead of covering third base? Good baserunning by Kyle Tucker to take the extra bag.

NOTED HOME RUN HITTER NICO HOERNER

Jason Heyward and Yadier Molina have very similar career offensive stats.

Chase Burns implies the existence of Run From Freezes

Given how strong the Chicago bullpen has been, I’m perfectly fine with the Cubs committing to Ben Brown’s development as a starter for now. Maybe he can unlock something in Iowa. There’s always time later this year for him to be used as a reliever of the need is there.

James Triantos is back in the Iowa lineup tonight. He spent last week with South Bend on rehab assignment.

And so it begins! Jaxon Wiggins is officially a Top 100 prospect, with Just Baseball inserting him into their list today!

The Cubs have released pitching prospect Joe Nahas. Nahas was signed as an undrafted free agent back in 2019 and worked his way up the ladder to Double-A in 2021, 2023, and 2024. He had a 4.52 ERA in his Cubs minor league career.

Alexa, play Let’s Get It Started by the Black Eyed Peas

After his 2 home runs yesterday, Carter Trice now sports the 2nd highest OPS among Cubs prospects (.903)

Ian Happ is one of the most wildly consistent players year-over-year that I’ve ever seen

Ian Happ 2025 OBP: .343. Ian Happ last five seasons OBP: .343. Ian Happ career OBP: .343.

James Triantos had 3 strikeouts tonight in his rehab start in South Bend. It’s just the third time in the last 3 years he’s struck out 3 times in a game.

Singing Go Cubs Go to my newborn instead of traditional lullabies.

South Bend batting Carter Trice, James Triantos, Jefferson Rojas, and Cristian Hernández atop the order tonight — a super intriguing group of prospects with really good bats. Should probably do a podcast about them, huh?

Some people are saying, “Pete”

Today is a REAL fun one in the organization if you like starting pitching! Chicago: Cade Horton Iowa: Connor Noland Knoxville: Grant Kipp South Bend: Ryan Gallagher Myrtle Beach: Nazier Mulé Five starting pitchers, five Top 25 prospects. Let’s have a day, folks.

Riley Martin down to a 1.17 ERA this season and maybe more importantly just an 8.1% BB rate in his last 17 innings

6 Ks in a row for Nick Dean. Ks the side in order in back to back innings, 3 scoreless so far.

Pitching in 111 degree weather, Brandon Birdsell has completed his first rehab start down in Arizona! 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 40 pitches

Tonight’s Cubs starting pitcher in the Arizona Complex League? Brandon Birdsell

Ty Southisene in 34 games 17 hits 13 stolen bases Baseball is weird

ICYMI — New pod with @cubsmith.bsky.social! My favorite topic: The REAL reason everyone is including Owen Caissie in their hypothetical trade packages. Hint: it’s not because he’s blocked in Chicago. 📺: youtu.be/jIa6C6p032M?... 🍎: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/c... 🔗: linktr.ee/cubsondeck

It’s 3:30am and I’m up thinking about Pete Crow-Armstrong’s diving catch and home run off the video board

Quite possibly the best pitching performance I’ve ever seen

What Gage Wood is doing for Arkansas in the Men’s College World Series is one of the more impressive performances I’ve seen in a long, long time.
