News literacy is part of scientific literacy, so the staff of C&EN want to give you a short primer on how we tend to structure our articles. cen.acs.org/education/sc... #chemsky🧪 #scicomm

This is *exactly* why the @cncf.io was created. A safe space for community and companies to come together with longitudinal guarantees of stability and fair ground rules. There are no backsies. @synadia.bsky.social? @derekcollison.bsky.social? This is not ok. www.cncf.io/blog/2025/04...

Happy #Easter

Your periodic reminder that one way to think about privilege is: who's allowed to make mistakes?

in which chatgpt tells me about it's undocumented hardcoded boundaries and some of the ways it's trained to be intentionally deceptive. (i got here by proving that it had done facial recognition for me in the past, after it denied doing so for a while. once it "remembered," it stopped obfuscating.)

The timing for the premier of Andor session 2 is just perfect.

This reinforces my impression that prompt engineering is a cargo cult: "we experimented with different prompt engineering strategies. However we found the most effective route to improve outcomes was simply brute force: retry steps until they passed or we reached a limit". medium.com/airbnb-engin...

It's sad that the deportation and incarceration of venezuelans in El Salvador had to happen for the venezuelans to learn that you can't support an authoritarian regimen in another country just because it opposes your own authoritarian regimen.

Interesting how people is learning about this now. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_f...

If they also get mad at "almost right" angles, I can empathize.

1. LLM-generated code tries to run code from online software packages. Which is normal but 2. The packages don’t exist. Which would normally cause an error but 3. Nefarious people have made malware under the package names that LLMs make up most often. So 4. Now the LLM code points to malware.

I cannot believe crypto bros never came to the term "Vibe investing". Such a missing opportunity!

I will take this opportunity to plump my favorite software interviewing process, which is: 1) give them a take home piece, and an hour or so to work on it 2) but the real "interview" is not the code you sent in, it's the conversational code review you have later with two of your prospective peers.

60 Minutes found no criminal record for 75% of the Venezuelan migrants the U.S. sent to a mega-prison in El Salvador. https://cbsn.ws/4lC4Vp5

European commercial rocket Spectrum, developed and operated by Isar Aerospace, took flight from Andøya Spaceport 🇳🇴 and flew for 30 seconds, clearing the launch pad and proving the rocket can achieve one of the hardest parts of space transportation: liftoff 🚀 More: www.esa.int/Enabling_Sup...

The Spanish economy grew 3.2% in 2024: Why is it outperforming peers?

It is kinda sad that as a Venezuelan, looking at my timeline in this site I feel I'm coming from the future.

Welcome to your life…

The best description of liberals I know is that they are like domestic cats. They see themselves as fiercely independent and despite a system they don't understand, but they totally depend on. If let alone, they will destroy it out of arrogance. That's why they are so dangerous as political actors.

Quick and dirty solutions are always dirty but rarely are they quick.

Never argue with people who feel comfortable in their ignorance.

I wanted to celebrate the late Gene Hackman's portentous career watching one of his most acclaimed movies, The Conversation, expecting a technology thriller. But It is a mind fucking movie. Be advised.

Slack is down! Now's our chance. Boot up AOL Instant Messenger and tell everyone this is the new chat. Come on people we've been training for this

pajama pants without pockets: WHY

Code generation tools fix the problem of software development being slow and expensive in much the same way that faster cars fix traffic congestion.
