The public spats with politicians and candidates have paid off!

There’s no one answer to this but making it easier for kids to be active outdoors, particularly as part of daily routines, can play a big role in supporting healthier lives. Child-friendly streets that support doorstep play and safe, attractive walking & cycling routes to school are a priority.

Reform UK is proposing a "Britannia card" that would let wealthy foreigners pay a £250k fee to move to the UK, and live here exempt from all tax on their foreign assets What they don't say: it would cost the UK £34bn Report here, and thread below: buff.ly/gpe2Dpf

I can't make it but this is an important screening

This is a good move, but it would be better if they'd also removed the need to have a referendum to raise council tax above 5%. Richer southern councils could charge more to cover the gap. As a % of property value, tax is way lower than in poorer areas.

Kiosks help build social interaction, increase natural surveillance, improve amenity and - ultimately - make cities nicer. We should have more of them.

Travel Basil is enjoying the street layout style carpet in our hotel in York

Could you?

Astonishing: 3% of UK people take 30% of all flights According to a new report, these ultra-frequent-flyers, UFFs (>6 flights/yr) were responsible for 63% of new passenger traffic over the last 20 years. New infrastructure is largely fulfilling the carbon burning habits of this tiny minority

New data reveals that 40% of corporation tax due from small businesses isn’t being paid. It’s a hidden crisis that costs the UK £15 billion a year — and HMRC has quietly lost control. buff.ly/5Ah4fP4

Really can't we just have a situation where people who are not causing any trouble can use toilets without being questioned.

Great to see the conversation in the US around how gender-blind design leaves girls out of parks. Also great to see Brickfield Park in Bath mentioned – co-created with teenage girls, alongside inspiring examples from Vienna. Awareness is growing! nextcity.org/urbanist-new...

university is SUPPOSED to challenge your beliefs! unless of course your belief is that trans people are awful, in which case awwww poor ickle baby, did the nasty mean people exist near you, awwwww poor baby, here let me give you a book deal and a podcast so you can tell us how scared you were

It's notable that the only student speech frequently shut down on university campuses is a) pro-Palestine b) pro-trans-rights. The OfS seems *deeply* unconcerned about that speech being limited. In fact, they want academics who oppose those positions to have the right to 'shock and offend' students.

Building roads increases congestion instead of reducing it.

Nobody seems to point out that a big factor in delays to HS2 is the repeated court actions by Conservative councils all along the line.

This is the sad thing about the HS2 fiasco. The need for more capacity hasn't gone away

Made the mistake of going on the top deck of a new routemaster when it's warm outside. But the Basils are happy

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about what makes bike lane design accessible for disabled biker. First, making sure lanes are wide enough to offer clearance for a range of adaptive, family and cargo bikes! Crossings where car traffic is expected to fully stop! 1/
