"oh a new episode of my favourite news show, I wonder if they've fixed the bouncing desk I've been asking about for months?" Spoiler alert, they have not. Why do you hate me John?

Give it time, if 'Christians' can rationalise empathy as a sin the algorithm will be a vessel of the holy spirit before 2035.

You tell me he's done his chores yet we both know the desk is still going to be bouncing, why are you like this?

This is all true but I also think it's become basically impossible to account the loud minority. Across basically everything they are literally louder than at any point in history. That one idiot you overhead in the pub is now in your pocket and shared around the world. We aren't built for this.

I think we will be inflating what we think we need from the trauma of what we would have needed this year for awhile. These numbers aren't surprising in the context of what most teams usually need but also wouldn't really be enough to cope with what we had to this year partly because no one can.

I answered Rice to the question immediately. He is a sweaty boy dont let them gaslight you.

If I send you some Alibabotox can you inject it in the desk so it stops bloody flapping every time John does.
comment in response to

If he can reliably match players like Mendes in a race from the halfway line like he did in the first half I'm not worried. We've seen all year what no 5 looks like in those scenarios.

Have either of them demonstrated an ability to do E? I can't recall anything this fractured coming back around with either of them.

Oh yeah you care about floppy disks but not floppy desks, screw you John.

Here's hoping it's MLS teabagging Haaland.

If he's spent 14 days in the studio again and hasn't fixed the fecking table I'm writing a strongly worded letter.

Partey(ugh) + Dowman make this 19 outfield players. I just don't see us getting to 22 without including the injured players or keeping some of the likely to leaves. Jesus and Tomi would round it out so nicely or give you room to maneuver but we obviously can't have nice things.

That was my impression but I wasn't sure how much the big ticket wingers might actually raise the level vs my limited impressions. I think Sesko + a winger is probably the best bet and will happen but if Sesko gets north of 70m I start wanting to try some other angle.
comment in response to
post
Yeah, I just hadn't appreciated that over half of his goals are against a level below our weakest opponents. I was weakening on Sesko but think it makes more sense now seeing this. Maybe I'd prefer a superstar winger + cheaper striker but Rodrygo / Leao might not quite be that or available.

So Kai has 66 minutes against Gyokeres most played opposition assuming 1752 or lower is equal ish to 10-18 in the Portuguese league? Around half of Gyokeres' goals are against a level of opposition we don't play. That asterisk just gets bigger the more angles you look at it from.

Havertz's stats in this format would be useful if it's not too much work.
comment in response to
post
I'm not sold on Williams either, hence why if Rodrygo is on the market and doable that becomes the priority. Maybe you can get a new Jesus if Watkins isn't the fit but spending 70m on a striker who isn't a nailed starter and can't play wide is odd when you get past the we need a 9 hysteria.
comment in response to
post
I trust the talent ID to an extent, but Rodrygo and a Watkins level signing feels like the proper safe bet if it's doable around similar money to Sesko/Gyokeres + Williams or whoever else. I'm almost certain our best 11 next season will include Havertz unless the new striker absolutely flies.
comment in response to
post
I'm becoming more convinced the smart money is Rodrygo + Watkins.
comment in response to
post
Yeah that's what I'd assumed. It's where you draw the line on some of the wingbacks that made me wonder who might be near the bottom of the list instead.
comment in response to
post
This has me wondering how you define wingers but also how anyone should. I wonder how much the list of players who have the most time in wingery areas corresponds to the list of wingers anyone would come up with. The usual position names are probably the least useful they've ever been in the PL.

This is awful news, I want them all now.

Anyone saying he was better than Arteta should be doing the Raphinha knee walk thing for at least a week.

There's nothing Still about him right now I bet.

Just remember you're Hank fucking Green, you'll be fine.

Next week's episode should be about John's worsening relationship with me because he still hasn't fixed the fucking desk.
comment in response to

I'll be confused if the desk is still bouncing given my previous reasonable requests to fix it.
comment in response to

It also took an all timer season from Salah to largely stay still. They need to get their summer business right or they could go backwards.
comment in response to

Knew this was coming, you've let them off easy.
comment in response to

Yeah that makes more sense. I'm now wondering if we convert touches / balls in the box to big chances at a lower rate than other clubs. My feeling is that we do but maybe the data says otherwise.
comment in response to
post
What conclusions do you draw from Odegaards position on this? My take would be, best in the world at getting the ball in the box but less efficient at turning it into chances. Then the question is, is it a low block opponent issue vs Odegaard forcing the ball into the box in bad positions?
comment in response to
post
Yeah it's maybe a bit less secure than the current setup although replacing 5 is huge in that regard anyway. As you say it's more options which is what Arteta always seems to want. One of our biggest issues this year is the net over the final third isn't really there Zubi should massively help that.

Now I need to go to the corner and think about what I've done.
comment in response to

I don't think you are appropriately outraged about this egregious factual error. Orbinho deserves to be sent to the corner to think about what they've done.
comment in response to

Yeah given other leagues at similar levels exist unlike the NHL you'd need some qualifiers. Then again a separate proper PL rookie award for anyone would be nice to have. We need more awards and actual trophies for them it's just more fun.
comment in response to
post
NHL style rookie of the year award could work. Think its first season with 25+ games or something like that. Then again NHL awards are the best in sports in general any league worth their salt should just steal them all. I need the Steven Gerrard trophy for worst mistake leading to a goal to exist.
comment in response to

I wonder if he will sit with the CBs and then have higher fullbacks. If we can use Timber like he was against PSG and MLS going wherever he wants it could solve the problem indirectly. Shame he doesn't have year with Jorgi to learn from but Mikel was no slouch at 6 either.
comment in response to
post
Oh absolutely, I'm more curious how much what I'm seeing matches the stats. Is he at 80% 60%?. I'm struck by how bad Odegaard feels at times whilst still producing at a high level stats wise.
comment in response to
post
This was always silly once we got timelines, I do wonder what his stats look like though. He's not quite looked his best even if he looked great at times but there's so many extenuating circumstances to make judging anything difficult.
comment in response to
post
The Havertz factor is so forgotten about and it'll come down to how much faith Arteta has in his form being replicable vs a purple patch. Rodrygo + a different profile to Havertz would be the ideal summer. How good that striker is depends on the wider budget.
comment in response to
post
What if it's actually "he can't seem to do it enough". There's been loads of players who look world class in bursts but never sustain it.
comment in response to
post
Absolutely but we've used some pretty sideways false nineing this season. Even before injury hell Havertz was playing RW a lot. I wonder what the play looks like when we have a big lump glued to the penalty spot when the ball is in the final third.
comment in response to
post
I struggle with any analysis of what Raya should or shouldn't do. It can only really be done on the tactical cam or in the ground. He's in a similar boat as Odegaard for me, the mental load has a cost and we don't give that enough credit.
comment in response to
post
But some people have feelings that say otherwise Adam. This is the problem with you stats guys, too wrapped up in what actually happened.
comment in response to

If this is Odegaard's attacking output in freefall how good must he be when it isn't.
comment in response to
post
Yeah I would like to think I wouldn't but if I'd been going home and away for the last 15 years maybe I'd feel differently. I don't support what they are doing but understand it all the same. There will obviously be some doing it who need to get some perspective though.

He doesn't love the club as much as some of the fans do. Carragher said as much on sky, when you are local lad leaving the club hits different than if you are blow in. I don't like to think of the world where Saka does the same or that I'd ever boo him but the hurt of that would be tough to contain
comment in response to

Yep, this is what I thought he was trying to say. He's just so composed usually anything leaking through kinda tells you he's going through it. Needs 3 weeks in San Sebastian and he'll be back to normal.

I'm not sure its exclusive to football but Darren who hasn't left the bad place talks about the ticketing changes happening across the league quite well. The people in the ground just fundamentally aren't the same as they were 5-10 years ago and it's only getting worse.
