SCOOP: Ohio GOP lawmakers plan to introduce a bill that would completely ban & criminalize abortion, IVF & some forms of contraception. Abortions would get homicide charges. We have the bill language. @news5cleveland.bsky.social @ohiocapitaljournal.com www.news5cleveland.com/news/politic...

The Atlantic should be ashamed of publishing this nightmare piece from Liz Bruenig, whose callous dismissal of Adriana Smith's dignity is one of the most shocking things I've ever read.

Nearly half of 140 senior SSA administrators have been forced out or left the agency. A decimation of hundreds of years of administrative expertise at the insitence of the ignorant. (Gift article) www.nytimes.com/2025/06/16/u...

Finance Committee text is out - this has the Medicaid cuts and the tax cuts. Will go through it in this thread. But what we can say for certain is that, like the House version, this would be BY FAR the largest Medicaid cuts in history, kicking many millions of people off their health insurance.

When we reviewed the 1,450+ NIH grants terminated by the Trump administration, we found that: • More than 550 were focused on health disparities or inequities • More than 300 were focused on LGBTQ+ health care Full story 👇

New Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano, who calls himself “fundamentally a DOGE person” & claims “the work DOGE did was 100% accurate.” That’s alarming given today’s NYT investigation into DOGE’s destructive role at the SSA, which included newly reported details on 3 key events:

Just read that the current budget being considered by the U.S. Senate has provisions that would bar Medicaid beneficiaries who are "non-compliant with work requirements" from enrolling in ACA Marketplace Plans

Even the most conservative estimates of turnout (4-6 million) make No Kings the largest protest in American history www.thedailybeast.com/data-guru-g-...

PUTIN WAS KICKED OUT OF G8 in 2014 WHEN HE ANNEXED CRIMEA. TRUDEAU WAS ELECTED IN 2015. THANK YOU FOR THE ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.

Hall & Oats never went by "Hall & Oats." All of their albums say "Daryl Hall and John Oates." We can't go for that (no can do).

Exactly. Christian Nationalism is extremist but much of the media pretends otherwise, going out of its way to normalize a radical supremacist movement.

For all 2.75 of you who can't wait for the book to be out in spring 2026, here's the shortest published excerpt gift link:

Judge orders NIH grants terminated on gender, DEI grounds be restored. www.axios.com/local/boston...

I remember watching Ananda on MTV. She died at 52 from a preventable & treatable form of cancer bc she worried mammogram radiation would give her cancer. She then declined treatment when diagnosed, which she regretted when it was too late. The “wellness” industry is literally scaring people to death

From xkcd.com/radiation/ (h/t @realitybased1.bsky.social)

This is serious, rigorous analysis and it should change the way the media has been covering these protests. These were, in the aggregate, *massive.*

The gunman no doubt thought of himself as a good person, as someone who was pro-life, but his ideology brought him to a place where he shot 17 bullets into a couple who got into politics to help get health insurance for his daughter, who has spina bifida.

1/ I don't know about you, but I'm a big fan of Pussy Riot. Such a thrill that they participated in the march in LA! They displayed a red banner that read, “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Russia.” Free link. https://tinyurl.com/3feabau9

Very excited for this piece with @ianshapiro.bsky.social to be forthcoming at Political Behavior! In it, we show --- using Twitter data, panel-survey data, and a survey experiment --- that the real beating heart of election denialism in 2020 was white racism papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

Rand Paul: "I've never liked the idea of the parade. I grew up in the '70s and '80s, and the only parades I can remember are Soviet parades for the most part or North Korean parades. The parades I remember from our history were different...we never glorified weapons so much...then there is the cost"

This is not something democratic societies do.

Boston. Site of the original No Kings protest.

So basically the protests were peaceful except that two competing cop departments accidentally went to war with each other

I did not edit this, this is the actual parade with the actual music being played. CINEMATIC

“A pretty listless and low-energy parade and crowd”

TFW no one showed up to your book talk.

Ann Arbor turned out! No Kings!!

San Diego SHOWED UP! I’ve been here for 30 years and have NEVER seen anything like this! #NOKINGS

Compare and contrast

Bigger crowds at your average Bay Area farmer’s market

And you thought you had a bad day at work

Perfectly sums up Trump’s second term

Whitmer too.

Provincetown is a small town, and it’s raining today, but I did a quick headcount and we’ve got 500+ people at our drag-queen-hosted #NoKings rally!

It's hard to understate how important Representative & former Speaker Hortman was to Minnesota politics - she was probably the most prominent woman politician & integral to the recent budget deal. She was also incredibly kind and a real person - Kiernan sold her girl scout cookies. It's horrifying.

Melissa Hortman, who was assassinated last night, was the Speaker of the Minnesota House in the 2023-2024 session, when Democrats ran the state government. That means she had a leading role in shepherding the many landmark reforms that Dems adopted in that period—an important legacy. Brief 🧵.

Some thoughts about the military parade in my hometown of Washington DC today -- specifically, the route. Military parades in DC are quite rare. But when they happen, they have always begun, symbolically and geographically, at the Capitol and moved outward. 1/

We heard directly from more than 150 researchers, scientists and investigators about their terminated NIH grants and the science that’s being lost. Full story ⤵️

The first person arrested by the Marines is an Army veteran who was on his way to work at the Veterans Administration. It appears he was arrested for crossing a yellow line which the Marines did not realize was not designed to exclude federal employees from reporting to work.

How many times has this happened already? How many times will it happen in the coming years? The idiots who fired the competent people suddenly realize they are out of their depth.

What? Some good news on a Friday? Parent Fellowship Notices of Funding Opportunities are up! F30, F31, F32, F33 grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

I encourage everyone to consider attending one of the many demonstrations planned for tomorrow across the country. Show up. Demand accountability. Peacefully protest. Find the rally closest to you: NoKings.org

when there isn't an upcoming election, it's still meaningful if one side is pissed off and/or the other is demoralized, BUT it would be nice for public pollsters to have within-subject panels going to see how much recent movement is nonresponse bias vs. how much is people changing their minds
