"Ravenswood" is a Dungeons & Dragons sounding name for a neighborhood. Chicago based individual, but still New Orleans related. Georgia raised via UGA & SSI.

Mahmoud should’ve never missed the birth of his child, or his first Father’s Day, or being with his wife during countless precious moments as a growing family. His release today underscores what so many of us have said. His detention was unjust. We need to end these disappearings.

It always takes me a minute when I see pics like this with Louisiana TV station logos to remember “Oh right, that nightmare prison is in Jena”

Oh my goodness, they saved the Okefenokee Swamp!

If their "establish a religion" law is too conservative for the 5th Circuit...

This story is some real Mafia shit from the New Orleans police. "Von Derhaar had just requested a leave of absence after reporting his concerns about poor working conditions, lack of standard procedures and faulty testing in the lab that Von Derhaar said could make an innocent person look guilty."

Pretty difficult to trust police when bad cops abuse their power to intimidate *other cops* like this.

Thanks for the reminder @janemunday.bsky.social. Every summer, I repost this article DROWNING DOES NOT LOOK LIKE DROWNING. To date, I know of FOUR kids who were saved after someone who'd clicked on the link learnt how to spot actual drowning. Take time to read and pass on. slate.com/technology/2...

the destruction of chattel slavery is one of the great accomplishments in our nation's history and the reason conservatives hate celebrating it is because doing so legitimizes the black counter-narrative of the united states

This would be amazing:

Per Harold Meyerson, it turns out that housing production is not monocausal and primarily about zoning! And when you deport the immigrants who build houses, and put tariffs on the materials that make up houses, houses don't get built! prospect.org/blogs-and-ne...

Ald. Mitts (37th) introduced an ordinance that would require every licensed business in Chicago that is open to the general public to install surveillance cameras pointed at the entrance and at the public right of way near the entrance chicityclerkelms.chicago.gov/Matter/?matt...

Attending IL State Senator Mike Simmons's town hall at Amundsen HS in Ravenswood/Lincoln Square. Big issue on the agenda is funding transit.

🚆 Metra UP-N: inbound and outbound trains are on the move and may be delayed up to 40 minutes due to a vehicle striking the bridge. Visit metratracker.com for the location of your train.

Just shared this with my Police District Council in Chicago, since the CPD Workforce Study is a regular topic of public comment.

The radicalization of the American right is THE story of US politics over the last four decades and political reporters are still not allowed to talk about it

it's like the fifteenth or sixteenth highest priority on the list of lessons to learn from yesterday but i hope we can acknowledge soon that parades in general suck. the exception of course is mardi gras, which completely washes every other parading tradition

#nokings #savannah I have never seen this many people in Forsyth. Savannah showed up!

Last thing, 2-4 pm is peak REAPPLY SUNSCREEN hours, don’t forget your ears/lips/backs of your hands/tops of your feet, lotta summer left

Just finished up at the Evanston No Kings rally. It was safe, peaceful, and a show of solidarity by *at least* 1,000 people. Go to your local protest. Don’t let this administration scare you. Stand with your community when our leaders won’t.

Saxophone busker at Michigan Ave bridge going in on "Cult of Personality" from In Living Color. #KnowYourAudience

Can hear the crowd in Chicago from blocks away. Like walking to an SEC football game..

Now: Daley Plaza in Chicago is already full, spilling into the streets surrounding it for today's #NoKings rally in Chicago. This will be my thread for that. Fyi: With so many people down here, service may be spotty so uploading photos/video may not work and I may end up resorting to text.

Based on this train I am on and seeing the platforms we are passing… tens of thousands of people are still on the way

"No kings, more trains." - overheard on an overstuffed Brown Line car on Chicago CTA.

Especially if you're on the fence about it, protest today. Fascism is isolating and lonely. Its very goal is to make you feel like you're the only person unwilling to accept a cult of personality. On days like today you fully realize there are more of us than there are them. You will feel better.

Melissa Hortman, who was assassinated last night, was the Speaker of the Minnesota House in the 2023-2024 session, when Democrats ran the state government. That means she had a leading role in shepherding the many landmark reforms that Dems adopted in that period—an important legacy. Brief 🧵.

Recipe for volunteer burnout:

Watch the full conversation with Ta-Nehisi Coates and @chrislhayes.bsky.social on YouTube now.

I’m sorry, Alanis Morissette just posted that it’s been 30 years since Jagged Little Pill and I must cast myself into the cauldron of age to be boiled into a stew of old.

Apparently this happened on the BNSF line, just before the Outbound Afternoon Rush mind you!

My latest scoop: ICE has rescinded its accountability policy for warrantless arrests, giving agents “free license to make any arrest,” per one lawyer representing victims. It follows @theguardian.com exclusive that the agency was told to “push the envelope” to meet Trump’s 3k arrest quota.

I saw January 6th unfold with my own eye. I was glued to the tube for hours in disbelief. I listened to the testimonies. I watched the documentaries. And with the orange criminal back in office, pardoning 1600 other criminals, it's like it never happened.

SHUT. IT. DOWN. A senator was dragged out of a press conference for standing up for his constituents and against fascism. Watch how your representatives and senators respond to their own colleague being treated like this. That'll show you how they'll react when it's *you* on the ground.

It is bizarre the way people with guns, bulletproof vests, riot shields, tanks, and other military gear act like rocks are an equal threat. It’s madness! If you are scared of rocks and think the punishment for having them thrown at you should be death, you shouldn’t be in law enforcement!
