Details and calls for all eighteen DiGRA 2025 workshops are up on the website! digraconference2025.org/calls-worksh...

I was really impressed by the level of critique and analysis at the World Through AI exhibition at Jeu de Paume in Paris. In particular the work calculatingempires.net by Vladan Joler and @katecrawford.bsky.social is absolutely worth the trip!

Very cool looking PhD studentship in gaming and sustainability at Uni of Salford here, working with @cultsociologist.bsky.social and Tom Brock. Interested to see the outcomes of this one! www.jobs.ac.uk/job/DMU434/p... #PhD #studentship #funding #GameStudies #EcoGames

My new collaboration with art magazine The Bunker Magazine is about videogames being modified, reinterpreted, hijacked, about videogames being toys. My last feature article discusses queering through modding, plundercore, machinima and virtual photography. [article in English]

Still a few days left to send us your abstract to the Game Engine Cultures workshop at DiGRA2025

Postgraduate scholarships at King's College London Faculty for Arts & Humanities for Black, Asian, and minority home students. Please share with those who might be interested. www.kcl.ac.uk/study-legacy...

A brilliant text by @therourke.net published on the occasion of our solo exhibition at @aksiomaorg.bsky.social in 2021. It predicts our present condition: we now live in a universe populated by deepfake Elon Musks who are everywhere, all the time.

Glad to announce the Game Engine Cultures workshop at DiGRA2025. Curated by Paolo Ruffino, Matteo Bittanti and Valentino Catricalà. Please send your abstract by April 4th. Workshop date: June 30th at the University of Malta drive.google.com/file/d/1A5pP...

Trump's plans to annex Greenland may be geopolitically motivated, but they also very much reflect the neocolonial mindset of the tech broligarchy: Greenland in particular has been on their radar for some time, and on the other site they are already envisioning their AI-fueled settler fantasies 1/

Message to all universities as the new semester begins

Here we go, something I've been drafting for a long, long time: how the US-centric approach to video games and their history / culture basically gaslights us who come from other realities: felipepepe.medium.com/the-gentrifi... AKA, why LAN Houses, PokéTibia & Bomba Patch rule.

Very excited to share the 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 special issue of the 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘎𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘊𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘮, edited by me and @poppywilde.bsky.social The issue considers the relationship between videogames and the post-Anthropocene, posthumanism and the post-apocalypse: gamescriticism.org/issue-6-a/ #gamestudies

I’m really excited to be part of this fantastic issue of the Journal of Games Criticism, curated by @larrymay.me and @poppywilde.bsky.social. My article explores some of the methodological implications in the study of games and the Anthropocene, focussing on a re-evaluation of the notion of scale.

I finished teaching my Playful Theory class, a seminar for studio artists focused on games. It was my first academic course in the post-ChatGPT era, so I tried out a few strategies to handle students potentially skimming readings and submitting AI-generated response papers. Thread🧵
