I wanted a clock web page to test out sci-fi themed digital signage/kiosk mode with my desktop Raspberry PI. I couldn't find a clock web page that was ad-free, minimalist and configurable so I vibe coded one: suckmyclock.xyz

Ugh - I am trying to set up my desktop raspberry pi as kiosk web clock, but finding a suitable clock web page is proving to be impossible. Either total ad spam or they don't save settings. I just want a retro sci-fi clock on my desktop (black background, orange font + Eurostile or GTFO) dammit.

There is nothing quite like exploding a container of tuna in your microwave to get the day off to a good start.

Startup diary: now have a working spike of displaying externally sourced real time data on the design surface. It isn't pretty (yet), but at least the major components are now scaffolded.

Startup diary. Mood:

Startup diary. Had an idea for a quick side project - a dead man's switch email service. The service would send a scheduled email at a future date unless you cancel it. Main problem is how to ensure use is legitimate and not spammy. but setting a high cost per email sent would probably work.

Bundle of games (mostly RPGs) whose proceeds go to Ukrainian hospitals Features my "Straight to Video" but good games too, like "Mausritter" and "Rosewood Abbey" too itch.io/b/2613/bundl...

My desk is a mess of cables. I have 3 monitors, a gaming PC. a mac mini, a raspberry pi, a work laptop, a home laptop, a kvm, a latte panda, sound gear and a (neglected) HOTAS setup. Not to mention the laser printer, the VDSL modem, the charging station for my tool batteries and the spider bot.

Startup diary. Trying to keep momentum on the main project without getting distracted by shiny things. I think I am going to have to carve out some timeboxed 'play time' so that I can learn new stuff without getting completely distracted.

Thinking of making a Bluesky feed like OnlyPosts but it rate limits the amount of posts from any one user to something like 5 a day. Some people are damn chatty - and even ignoring reposts, a lot of interesting posts from the quite majority get lost in the spam.

Trying Endless Space 2, because nothing says 'I want to make efficient use of my time' like playing Civilization in Space.

Near miss today - for a second I was close to writing a Linked In post but then I remembered that I'm not a sanctimonious self-promoting sociopath with a degree mill MBA (this is definitely going to come back to bite me when I need to promote my startup)

Taking a break from Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader. It is a good, well-executed CRPG and I like the combat mechanics but the setting is dragging me down. I know it is meant to be tongue-in-cheek but the grim darkness of the 41st century is becoming not fun. Corpse Starch? Yuck.

I've just been summarily unsubscribed from my Unity Industrial license at work. I wonder if that is a good sign? Oh no. Anyway.

Startup diary. The thing I'm building is UX focused, and is inspired a lot by film/tv/game sci-fi displays (not you LCARS, sit down). Shoutout to typesetinthefuture.com for some great insights in how some classic sci-fi films get their 'futuristic' look.

Startup diary. The thing I am going to miss most from the office is the Herman Miller Aeron chair they supplied. Those things are amazing and make my cheap home office chair feel like a torture device. They cost over 2K, but I'm definitely getting one if I start making money with this side hustle.

Startup Diary. Working on a simple proxy to enable time series data to be pushed from multiple private sources to a centralized public facing managed API. Tempted to make it its own thing. Dropbox for JSON?

Startup diary: Rainy autumn Sunday with nothing urgent on the family agenda. Time to cue up Spotify, plug in and get to work on scaffolding some core API features.

Saturday lunch time and I'm staring at VS code waiting for the coding part of my brain to wake up and start doing its job. Lubricating it with caffeine isn't working today - I probably need to go for a walk or do something manual for a while.

Redundancy startup diary - entry #1. Took the dog for a walk during office hours because I am now my own boss. The dog decided to crap in the car. Being self-employed has hidden dangers.

Disco Elysium understands me

Saturday night and I'm deep diving into Angular Material Themes. Is it even humanly possible to party harder than this?

So I've officially been given notice that I'm in the redundancy departure lounge - now we just have a couple of months of 'process' to wade through. I'm taking this as an opportunity I've started work on a SAAS project that I've been mulling over for some time. Startup time? Let's go.

2 hours sleep then up for our local community dawn service. Eldest is in uniform for parade with his cadet unit and I couldn't be more proud. Huge turnout again this year. The service was short and sombre and the crowd respectful. Dawn broke with a chorus of magpies after the Last Post.

Picked up my AWS CCP cert this week, so I am giving myself a couple of weeks off from resume padding to try and get some momentum with building my own full stack stuff. After that I'll be working towards the AWS Developer Associate cert. Grinding for XP in real life.

What a great game. So glad I gave it a go.
