He was Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. He wanted us to awaken from the illusion of our separateness. He wanted us to hurt less and love more. May we come together in this practice to build beloved community.

He convinced Martin Luther King, Jr to speak out against the war. He helped persuade the USA to end the war. In 2009, I met him and received the Five Mindfulness Trainings from him.

He didnโ€™t pick a side. He was on the side of the people. It got him and his colleagues exiled. He lived in France for decades until Vietnam granted his return to live out the last few years of his life.

I didnโ€™t know then, but a young Vietnamese Buddhist monk had worked tirelessly and peacefully for many years to bring medical care, food and other life-support to those in Vietnam impacted by the war. He lobbied for the end of the war to all who would listen .
