Reports of some feds shooting pepperball shots from the parking structure into a crowd that refuses to disperse. Pepperballs met with chants of "Fuck you" from the crowd.

Several large crowds have begun to converge at the federal detention center in Los Angeles on Alameda.
CHP has blocked several of the freeway exit ramps and streets leading to the federal building to try to prevent people from gathering. Most streets are still wide open and full of large crowds.

i don’t think the hardliners would’ve had the chance nor inclination at that time to do purges on the more reformist socialists, given the dangers of yeltsin and the widespread desire to save the union (even from other members of the union), i figure it would’ve been rough but not to this degree

if you want a more spicy take: the 1993 hardliner officer coup to reinstate the ussr was kinda sick and i think it should’ve succeeded, it would’ve been so much better in the long run than this, hands down

imo gorbachev had good principles at heart, the union desperately needed vast and rapid open-minded reforms, the us arming and funding militants inside the union ready for whenever someone like yeltsin came along is arguably the biggest issue, but he was narrow minded and naive about his allies

like dgmw it’s an election but it’s happening after years of her and amlo improving infrastructure and settling in the hearts of people, i love it. perfect timing
