If that's your problem I didn't say it was OK. I implied that it was understandable.

My dad, 2 aunts, 5 cousins and god only knows how many cousins-once-removed were all born in Oakland and I have never heard that accent.

Sounds let me the same accent that little Shake n Bake girl had when she "hiuylpt" her mom with dinner.

I have to ask - who is this guy? A recent cop show, I assume?

If you've seen much US news lately, ICE has been refusing to display ID, wear uniforms or show their face, and when people saw a bunch of guys swarming towards a business, the just assumed they were ICE. I read the story yesterday at work & will try to find the link.

Sort of similar to this guy. USSR thought the song was too pro-west so they told him to change the lyrics before going on TV, so he did.

If they won't pass such a law for our lives, they need to do it for the cops. There was a story yesterday about a DEA raid that was stopped by people who assumed they were ICE - they had masks and no visible ID, so the passer-bys surrounded them so their targets could run.

Spinal Tap's Smell the Glove had more panache and was more offensive.

Good grief. I saw a post to the effect somewhere and thought the guy was trying to make a joke.

REH didn't mention it that I know of, but I have to ask if you've ever swung by Fort Phantom Hill just north of Abilene? If you visit on a nasty, dreay winter day, the atmosphere is gloriously eerie.

He still seems to call himself a Trump supporter and supports "many" of Trump's policies, so no, while I would never laugh in his face, online it's reasonable to point out he's the type who'll have to be annoyed or harmed by each policy before it occurs to him it's harming others, too.

He's being a typical MAGA in that he doesn't believe that something could be bad until it affects him personally.

I'm with you 100% on planning being the most fun, not so much on the onion thing. Maybe 13% onion.

It kills me that you explicitly said you don't have room for a train layout but you have plenty of space in the sketch book, and now you're ordering new parts to go with the 8 or 9 cars you bought. *grin*

The Washington Post is paywalled, but this is from The Guardian:

I agree with you. All the time at work I hear people saying things like: This is just my opinion, not a fact, and it isn't necessarily what others would think, it's probably just me, but we could maybe consider doing blah blah, and the blah is something like lowering the fridge temp by 1°.

I don't see how it would be useful to discuss the ethical problem with chatbots. It's like telling your police cadets to discuss the problem of street crime with the local pickpockets.

That you have missed his opinions on traitors to the US simply shows you're here to insult him for not writing exactly what you want to read when you want to read it.
As for your demand that I hold your hand & walk you though his account - I'm not your employee and don't take orders from you.

He posted an observation about a specific aspect of a specific event. If you want to read his thoughts on other events, you can read earlier posts, his Atlantic columns and/or his writings for Princeton.
You are the lining embodiment of the waffle/pancake meme.

His employer is Princeton University, as you'd know if you had actually read any of his posts rather than just having a kneejerk reaction to this one.

Where exactly did he even suggest that?

I hope that after August everything will be good, and that these 3 months will be a complete medical success. You deserve some downtime to just recover from it all.

He asked why would I expect to see Greeks in the Roman senate, and after a few more comments I figured out he thought it was an AI generated image full of deep meaning about modern energy needs, while I knew it was roughly 1/3 of Raphael's School of Athens. Yes, this was the space laser guy again.
