On World Bee Day, we're reminded not only of the importance of bees to our environment, but also of the incredible strength of families like Bebe’s, who have transformed heartbreak and loss into hope by building a legacy that supports others.

Everyone deserves dignity, support, and the right to a peaceful, well-supported end of life - regardless of where they live.
For these reasons, I cannot support the bill. But I remain committed to listening, to learning, and to fighting for better care and compassion for everyone at life’s end.

No piece of legislation can fully capture the complexity of end-of-life decisions, and the consequences of getting it wrong are too great.
Rather than legislate in this area, I believe our focus should be on making sure every person in this country has access to world-class palliative care.

I understand why people support this bill - because they want to relieve suffering and offer dignity at the end of life. But I have deep concerns. Creating a strict legal framework for assisted dying risks missing the unique and deeply personal circumstances each person faces.

And during the interval, it was humbling to see the work the Salvation Army do with their foodbank and babybank. It’s awful that these services are needed after the austerity years, but I’m pleased that there’s help for those who need it.
