There really is a "bikelash" in Canada, unfortunately. In Ontario of course, but also in BC, Alberta, Moncton and now Halifax. Add to that mayoral candidate Sam Hamad in Quebec City, and you get the feeling that we are happily digging into the hole of car dependency.

It is indeed incredible that we hear bashing a neighborhood close to downtown, accessible by transit, next to a popular recreational bike path and with a walk score of 96, while the clusters of towers next to highways in the suburbs get no attention.

With Trudeau's LPC leaning further to the left in the past 10 years, the CPC had the opportunity to attract centrist voters, and candidates, disillusioned with the LPC. But they acted as if they were too afraid to lose a single vote to M. Bernier, even if they could have gained 5x more from the LPC.

You know traffic light sequence is problematic when you see bus drivers merge in the "regular" lanes at intersections where cars wait before making a right turn. But in my experience, this bus corridor works better than before. It will be even better if the traffic lights sequences are optimized.

It is to allow parking in the bus lane, for deliveries to the businesses on Henri-Bourassa. It is not clear how long this measure will be in effect. But it is clear to me that 23h59 looks weird.

Nos gouvernements sont obnubilés par l'électrification des transports. Le vrai objectif devrait être la décarbonation des transports. Électrifier est un moyen, non une fin. Et améliorer le service de TC est plus important que la source d'énergie des véhicules.

I also recommend the Andalucia cities, Granada, Cordoba and Sevilla. The arabic heritage makes this area unique in Western Europe, and weather is pleasant in October.

A common trick by the anti-bike crowd is to take the cost of a multi-purpose project and pretend all the $ was spent on bike lanes. For example Henri-Bourassa included a bus corridor and resurfacing the 8 lanes. Sure enough, opponents claimed it was "60M$ for a bike lane." But 8B$ beats everything.

He is not unintelligent, he acts as per his interests. If he can sell illusions (Hyperloop, Boring Co.) that delay transit projects that could hurt his car business, he will do it. This is what most fail to see, when the public is divided between people who see him either as a genius or as a moron.

The 3 largest metro areas (TOR, MTL, VAN) account for 35% of Canada's population, and look more like NE US cities in terms of street design and mode share. Other metro areas also have higher transit shares than mid-size US cities.

90% of my home-work commute looks like the first image. More than the cold or the need to get a winter bike, the unsafe conditions on streets like these keep me from cycling year-long.

Les pistes où il n'y a pas de protection sont en général sur des rues où la vitesse est basse: moins de chance de dérapage, et collision moins grave si ça arrive. Ce qu'il faut aussi se demander: les trottoirs seront-ils vraiment déneigés plus vite si on arrête de déneiger les pistes cyclables?

Les pistes cyclables protégées et déneigées font moins de 5% des km de rues à Montréal. Donc pas surprenant de voir beaucoup moins de vélos en hiver. De plus, une piste déneigée est une option bien plus intéressante que la rue quand le trottoir n'est pas déneigé.

En fait le 1065km est une surestimation, car plus des 2/3 ne sont pas séparés des voies auto. Il reste donc environ 300km de pistes sur des voies dédiées. Pas surprenant que ça soit moins long.

In the bad old days, when there were very few bike lanes cleared in winter, nobody seemed to care about sidewalks clogged with snow. But when one can find a reason to criticize bike infrastructure, sidewalks suddenly become important.

Le soir en direction est la voie de droite n'est pas réservée. Demandez à n'importe quel usager si ça roulait bien à l'heure de pointe du soir (avant les travaux bien sûr).

Passer par Gouin c'est un détour de 3.5km. Je ne considère pas cela comme une option. Dudemaine franchit la 15, mais ne règle pas le problème de la voie ferrée.

Le réaménagement comprend aussi une voie réservée pour les bus. Il y a présentement 30k usagers/jour sur ce tronçon, et ce sera plus avec les deux stations du REM. Et cet axe est le seul qui permet de franchir à vélo de façon sécuritaire la 15 et le viaduc Bois-de-Boulogne.

Est-ce que des ajouts seront faits aux intersections pour assurer que les automobilistes qui arrivent par les rues transversales ne vont pas dépasser la ligne d'arrêt avant de s'immobiliser? Je crains que la ligne d'arrêt soit ignorée.
