This is the true legacy of Elon Musk’s time in government

Musk should be asked about this in every interview he does now and forever. To ignore it is a dereliction of duty. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/30/o...

Imagine waiting 600 days to bravely tell the world a genocide is a genocide.

"Gilded Rococo wall appliqués, nearly identical to those at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, are stuck to the fireplace & office walls with the same level of aesthetic consideration a child gives her doll’s face before covering it in nail polish." ‪‪@keegin.bsky.social‬ www.nytimes.com/2025/05/27/o...

Chalk reefs are rare, I understand. 😥 This is awful.

A renewed Israeli military offensive has forcibly displaced almost 180,000 people in just 10 days through to Sunday 25 May, the International Organization for Migration has said

An example of fauxtomation where the supposed benefits of AI instead mean work is passed on to the person who isn’t being paid for it (the customer/user). (Sadly not at all surprised to see academic publishing doing this -it’s a model already built on exploitation)

Excellent. That seems like an easy solution, then. Phew.

“We are in a period now when it’s absolutely essential to protest,” says Hartmann, citing the Harvard professor Erica Chenoweth, who argues that just 3.5% of a population engaging in peaceful protest can hold back authoritarian movements’

A two-hundred year old journal of medicine and science posted this. Where's the rest of Western legacy media?

A recent report by Freemuse: artistic freedom is more threatened globally than ever, citing “censorship (incl self-censorship), imprisonment, travel bans, misuse of defamation, harassment, blasphemy legislation, misuse of anti-terrorism legislation” & violence. www.theguardian.com/film/2025/ma...

In an elevated part of the farm exploding with a terrific variety of self-seeded native trees and other wildlife, taking a break to reflect on the amazing transformation in just the last few years. Rewilding isn't just great for the planet. It's great for the *soul*. 🌍

I taught EFL in three countries over many years. The relationships and interactions were all about supporting communication between humans for work, travel, and fun. Interesting that someone who is in the language business doesn't value the humanity of languages.

What's the stupidest way you've hurt yourself? Hard to pick a winner from all the stupid times, but probably when I flipped my long wet hair in the bathroom, didn't realize how close I was to the stone sink, and knocked myself out.

My darling fellow white Americans: Erasure of full, complete history - our real history - in favor of the limited one that makes us less uncomfortable does not teach us anything but bad dreams and worse futures. Donate.

There is another plantation in Louisiana, the Whitney Plantation, that has dedicated its mission to teaching about the history of slavery and those who were enslaved on its grounds. So, not a resort wedding location. In fact, wedding photography is prohibited. It just lost its federal funding.

It’s uncanny, the way university senior management identify the most unique and irreplaceable aspects of their institutions as being the most obvious targets for cuts. It’s almost as if they didn’t know what universities were for.

The Trump Regime is cutting funding to them thegrio.com/2025/04/24/a...

📢 NEWS: Executive Director Ashley Rogers speaks to the growing threats facing cultural institutions like ours, especially those dedicated to telling stories from the POV of the enslaved and historically marginalized. #BlackHistoryIsAmericanHistory #PreserveHistory

no words for this waste and disregard of resources and the lives it could be saving

Everyone who knows me knows how much I adore Eurovision, but I can't party while one of its competing nations is committing genocide. It's a betrayal of everything the contest claims to be about. So tonight I'm going to a talk on haunted houses instead.

The magic of an ancient Irish forest: St John's Wood, Roscommon. Less than 1/1,000th (<0.1%) of Ireland is now ancient woodland, down from a pre-farming original of around 80%. In effect, over 799 parts out of 800 are gone, and even what's left is largely trashed. Let that sink in.

So this is a great response to a great thread, and it illustrates one of the things that most annoys me about originalism: that so few originalists think critically about their original source material except to verify its existence. This thread illustrates one thing that annoys the crap out of me.

It was one of the most bad-ass moments ever seen in a parliamentary session. It was nothing like Jan 6. They protested w their traditional (civil, non-violent) words, in their place of work. If that makes someone...uncomfortable...then maybe that person needs to ask themselves why. Also: ratio
