If you replace psycho with fascist, this is what I have been saying for years, word-for-word.

The White House has released a screenshot from the first PDB in the new format.

That couldn’t have been her; it was obviously a deepfake put out by The Onion.

Yale Law School must be reeling in horror at seeing its brand further devalued each time JD opens his mouth.

Well, if you put it that way, sure.

Nothing says “classy” like mashed potatoes served with an ice cream scoop.

I assume they are LED lights. At the risk of mansplaining to someone more knowledgeable about these sorts of things than I will ever be, you can probably fix the lighting issue by replacing the bulbs with a color temperature of 2700K.

It’s the exact opposite here in the SF Bay Area, to the great frustration of my wife, whose beer preferences are even narrower than mine.

Many restaurants do post their dessert menus. But for some reason nobody posts their beer menus, which would be nice for those of us who want to see if there are at least one or two non-IPA options.

I dunno, so much nuance involved, this would be a challenge even for the greatest minds in the field of ethics in public service.

I’m OK with it, but only because it’s easier to bulk-delete those messages now than it was when they were cluttering up my email inbox.

Sorry, I didn’t know light-hearted trash talking wasn’t permitted on this site.

Having James Dolan as your owner is a big glass house from which to throw stones. ;-)

Trump’s immunity for official acts does not protect him against civil liability. If we can’t prosecute him, we can at least hope to see him bankrupted by the thousands of people who may eventually sue him for kidnapping and false imprisonment.

No disagreement here. The example I had in mind was the campaign’s refusal to allow a Palestinian to speak at the convention, even if the speaker agreed to include a condemnation of the 10/7 attack.

The party is already trying to do that, to its own detriment. My hope is that both sides come to their senses, but that’s probably a pipe dream.

You took the time to read my profile (thanks!), but you didn’t read my post very carefully. That aside, my lefty kids would react the same way.

Speaking as someone who is, if not a hardcore lefty, at least somewhat sympathetic to their aims, nobody has done more damage to left-wing causes than the left itself.

Calling it a chocolate croissant rather than pain au chocolate will be insulting to the French no matter what it looks or tastes like.

The op-ed does acknowledge that the doctrine may well serve merely as a “one-way ratchet” favoring Republican positions, which, as the author states, would further damage the court’s declining legitimacy.

If the 2028 election is between Newsom and whichever right-wing goon takes the MAGA mantle from Trump, I will, of course, vote for Newsom, but I will be holding my nose so hard it will cause bruising.

Their grandchildren will bear a lifelong shame comparable to the shame that must be felt by the millions of Chileans, Argentinians, etc. whose grandparents were complicit in the human rights abuses there, or, at the very least, looked the other way.

They probably laughed at your letter just as Trump and Bukele joked about locking more people up. But if there really are a heaven and a hell, rest assured that the powers that be are keeping score.

The bill of particulars listed in the Declaration of Independence pales by comparison to what we’ve been experiencing since 1/20.

The only logical rationale for their pattern of behavior is to instill fear in all of us so we’ll think twice before doing or saying anything that hints at disloyalty to Trump. This is actual terrorism, as opposed to the phony terrorism for which people are being sent to a Salvadoran gulag.

For sentencing guidance we should look to the typical sentences given to kidnappers who imprison their victims for decades before being caught. No country-club prisons either. Maximum security.

The most persuasive rebuttal I’ve heard to that objection is that it’s less depressing to have darkness in the AM when you have sunrise to look forward to than it is to be coming home from work in pitch dark.

I’m old enough to remember when we adopted permanent DST in the 70’s as an energy-saving measure. People objected because their kids were walking to school in the dark. (I’m also old enough to remember when kids walked to school.)

During Obama’s presidency, Trump was like the drunk guy in business class loudly claiming he could fly the plane better. In 2016 we let him take the controls and he managed not to crash (despite lots of turbulence), but he had lots of help from experienced copilots. This time he’s flying solo.

The tragedy here is that we as a nation were not traumatized! Our economy was the envy of the world’s, and we were starting to see glimmers of hope for fixing our long-term problems. Now everything that’s good about the U.S. is being burned to the ground to soothe MAGA’s petty resentments.

Maybe it’s because we’re just wrapping up a stay in Dublin, but O’Toole’s critique of Trumpism reads like it’s delivered in an Irish accent, which makes it land all the more effectively.

This gang will never face justice; Trump has immunity, and he will pardon all his minions. But when they are out of power, they need to be shamed and shunned wherever they go. Spit on them, key their cars, make their lives hell.
comment in response to post
There’s no need for anyone to say I told you so; given what he was saying out loud during the campaign, Trump might as well have been wearing a sign that read, “I’m going to be the worst president you could ever imagine in your worst nightmares.”

Your point makes sense in normal times, even to a capitalist like myself (who leans social democrat, politically), but if you don’t think that even a neoliberal’s wet dream would be preferable to what we’re getting with Trump, you are not a serious person.
