Wonderful public parks all around London

And you don’t believe LatAm, Africa and Asia have double standards when it come to these and other conflicts? These two things can be true (and are true).

One element that also seems to lack clear definition here is “events”. As far as I’m aware, people are not protesting all temporary events and structures, but mostly the large scale, multi week, commercial events. Can’t recall anyone prospering small weekend music festivals and country fairs.

Could be. But apparently it isn’t, and there are many “one citizen” who support this state of affairs.

I think you’ll find it’s not “one citizen”. I’m under the impression that opponents used legal means to achieve their goals here. Is your view that citizens should not be able to use legal recourse to dispute decisions from democratically elected representatives? Or is that just for festivals?

Sure thing….

I have no issue with small scale festivals open to all for free or a symbolic fee, not requiring 5m tall segregation fences and destroying a significant portion of the grass for the rest of the summer (e.g. Brockwell). There are also major music venues and stadiums all around London.

I am arguing against ‘commercial’ (that’s the important word here) summer park festivals cause it’s against my personal interest and the personal interest of thousands of local residents. You are arguing in favour and I’m sure you have your own valid reasons. Our interests just don’t align on this.

They are, but quite evidently to the detriment of others. It’s not a public festival. What if they were privatising 50% of a school yard for a commercial event and kids could only use the 50% left for an entire summer month, and with the yard left damaged after the event? Would you be in favour?

Yes, that’s the issue. Doesn’t matter if it’s just a portion of the park, it’s the destruction of public good, noise pollution and actual pollution, etc. and I don’t think the council is doing a good job at telling people where the money raised is being spent, although it’s probably towards debt

Unsurprisingly, they are not really saying what they think the answer is. Immunity correlated to popularity for politics, perhaps?

Isn’t it just VAT paid when they buy something with their pocket money ;)

Is everything actually made in Europe, though? Genuine question.

Wonder what champagne he’ll be serving at his regular kleptocrat gatherings

The « Sovietisation » of a sector by « financiers and investors » reminds me of Liz Truss and the leftist capital markets targeting her economic programme. And this guy’s response to « Sovietisation » is to have a bunch of hens in your garden, presumably?

With Trump there is no strategic there there. It's all a blend of narcissistic paranoia and vague authoritarian impulses driven by kleptocratic instincts

Old enough to remember how they justified invading Iraq…

Good speech. Issue is he’s asking for efforts / sacrifice from French society but didn’t share specifics on what he meant. He, however, specifically mentioned unions, and we’ll need to see if these people get the sense of urgency to make these “efforts”, which is unlikely unfortunately.
