Still alive (so far!), thank you ismua also @doodleslave.bsky.social for thinking of me.
But deep in basic convalescence mode - will take time: I hope (obvs) no further setbacks. One worrying element I won't bore you with at this stage.
I'll have to cut back on my time on here, esp ATM but ongoing

You didn't ask me for advice, but I would leave that for a while too. Delete nothing during mourning and grief. Leave a bit of time & space for that, for Zeus, ... and for yourself too.
Just take a few fewer photos for now ... ;)

tbh I never noticed any apostrophe, that or any other aberration in your message.
As to @doodleslave.bsky.social I merely give you appreciative thanks!

Indeed to all that. Best physical shape may be moot, but I've been trying to shape up & have lost a lot of weight since all this kicked off in Jan, then successively worse test results. (Prognosis 1 was just tablets - then 2: stents - then disastrous angiogram of 15 Apr: "stents no appropriate"...)

Sorry, Claire. Not really at my best at the moment.

Thank you for thinking of me, Clare!
I go in Wed, for major surgery (triple bypass) on Thurs. You can probably imagine my feelings ... not least the prospect of walking into the theatre, as is the modern medical preference. It feels like surreal horror. Trying to be +
Best wishes in return! xxx

Yes, the Canadian Michael Smith is quite well known!

Michael Smith must be a proper chef name. One of the best meals out I have ever had was on the Isle of Skye ...

Of course, some have made a thing of going to the other extreme (Keith Floyd being an obvious example - barely in control of his state at times)!!

Typical of Jenkins .... the "musical anarchist" (self-description)
FWIW IMV the music does not consistently match the high standard of the zany/pomp-corrective wit ... but certainly has its moments, amid the madness.

Peyts, you look proper hard done by there!!
I hope you duly got some noms!!

Sounds like the Fool's Gold Standard to me.
I like it when chefs and food(ie) writers have a little bit of humour (and can take a bit of a rise out of themselves - e.g. Jay Rayner, Nigella, etc if you know them), rather than just stiffly pontificating on their own &/or their idols' excellence.

((Ce n'était qu'une blague de ma part - la coïncidence lexicale
I took it as analogous to "stag fight" in English (with side-reference to the cruel gambling sport of bantams set against each other) - contested virility displays - but the animal term was striking for the story, hence my 😱as a 😜))

But that fight terminology ....
I've heard "noeud", "queue", "bite", "pine", "verge", even "zizi" and "zob", but I've never heard that Anglicism in French before. Maybe my French is way behind the times ....

Another open question I have is:
Is all (or any?) of the attached version of Putin's early life proven as fact?
Experience of Putin since his KGB days leads me to the impression that every single aspect of his political career & life is likely to be invented, inverted, manipulated, or 100% lies.

But - not that it matters for the grotesquely brutish behaviour typical of VV - do you think that worldview is "sincerely" held, or is a different order of ideology at work: namely, manipulating/swindling the Russian people (& any outsider dimwitted enough to fall for it) that the Cause is just?

When people complain about red tape and health and safety gone mad, remember it's tragedies like this that we have learned from.

Meanwhile, I am wondering what the giant ?poster? is about between his head and that of the blurred passer-by. A reminder to keep faces covered???? A commercial advertisement? Can't see if it's in Italian, French or sth else ...

I think the point is the crowd of ultra-faithful (pilgrims to St Peter's Sq) - added to the collective hysteria of any common-cause mass, see football etc - is jubilant for the perpetuation of the leadership: not concerned about whoever the individual is.
For non-ultras however, individuals matter.

All at once, the song has turned to Kahal & Fain:
[The faithful crowd in St Peter's Square address the chimney:]
"If the nightingales could smoke like you
They'd sing much whiter than they do!
For you ... brought a new kind of pope to we"
tbf: The choice could clearly have been a lot worse.
