I don’t understand how we can get so far from the truth. For me it was always just like, yeah- it’s clear that we should listen to people who are having the experience.

Join a local buy nothing group. Get good at bartering or trading skills. Consuming has been the downfall. We will have to learn to live differently.

It's time to learn some skills, folks. We are in for a bumpy ride and will have to begin the work of building local systems. Putting a ton of pressure on local gov to ensure Fed doesn't derail local economies. If you own a home with extra space, consider renting one for trades or low cost.

What will be the tariff on American citizen import? Asking for a friend..

Some of us never had a shot at investments. It's bad bad across the board. Intergenerational solidarity will be forced upon us. I truly hope we can help each other. The older generations with homes should consider creating a network of room rentals for younger people about to be homeless.

Empathy starts at home- for yourself, your neighbors, your enemies. Lots of folks calling for a kinder world while yelling at a barista. We have to walk in peace - exemplify it. The shitty systems will fall if we can.

I feel like the tension worth exploring more is local vs nation or global. We'll never out dollar them but local systems can support large groups and ultimately build things that don't rely on the "outside world"

Although I'm just dusting off my creative prowess, I find it can help with general ideation but my brain is better. I imagine the future will still be partially "analog" but it will help people with a vision get it there faster. The whole make x in y style thing is annoying and lazy imo.

I agree with the sentiment. Taste is, and always will be, the differentiator.

Mine are almost always immediately upon wakin, while walking or in the bath!

Fully remote + a monthly in person working session or two for creativity & connection would seem a better use of that office lease money.

Will posting on on skylight be in the future? Seems important to keep videos, photos, and text in different spaces. I don’t really care but thinking about folks who don’t want to see videos if they just want to read/write.

You're so refreshing. Clearly not pandering- just sharing while the world swoons. Appreciate you.

That’s fair & what I hope we can continue to urge in conversation. Shift the culture to protect people while empowering with skill and knowledge. I don’t know how we return pandora at this point but perhaps we can tame it.

It feels like peace is an abstract concept in our culture. We see people violently screaming for non-violence, wanting a civil society while degrading and dismissing strangers on the internet. Values is a large part of this, I agree. How do we make peace concrete to the masses?
comment in response to

I so appreciate to find other voices looking to bridge the conversation. We surely won't end up with positive outcomes unless a lot of good people join the convo with open ears. Ethics can absolutely, and I would argue, should always be a part of the design process. I hope we inch there quickly.

They must coexist if we are to ensure that tech does not only end up in the hands with nefarious goals. I'm happy to find folks that are willing to engage in real discussions about this!

I'd love to see "Tech Ed" in schools, like sex ed. The discussions now seem so binary but the truth is, if we don't teach about the dangers and the possibilities, especially with our youth and seniors, real harm will take place. Abstinence is a losing strategy. Values must be taught in tandem, imo.

You’re throwing around a lot of words you have no context for for an academic. Wooosahhh. These things will get sorted. I wish you well

That’s actually great. You should be. See.. not your enemy. Yikes. And I hope you win. And I hope you can maybe relax a bit with strangers.. if we want that better world and all.

I’d suggest speaking to people like humans instead of whatever this energy is. I would prefer a world with no AI but it’s here. How dare we engage in any real discussion! I’m well aware of how it works. You can be mad at the world and still kind, I promise. ✌️

I agree one to one copies are insane. But are you against collage also? This convo is lacking nuance. Art, identity, culture is and always will be iterative. There’s got to be some room for discussion beyond the binary here. IMO it feels like an abstinence angle which we know can backfire.

I will say, the hype videos did mislead a bit but still pretty impressive. Whoever can wrangle one of these to parse out and keep a particular element in tact and change the surroundings, pleeaase let me know! 🥹

Do you think the onslaught of slop will result in a return to some of those other values (trust, community, slow, local)? Or! Will it create a hyper-paranoid hellscape?

I get why people are upset about the complete copy of another style. It seems to defeat the point of creating with these tools. I hope we see individual artists get to license their style if someone truly “must” have it.

Okay I’ll stop bugging you but one last question- I’m truly curious on public opinion in the formation of my own. What about art not fully created by AI, just assisted. The stories, the images, the visions all human created with an admin/ideation boost from the robots?

Has anyone created some scaffolding around appropriate and ethical uses? I’m interested in hearing more about the potential because I hear more about (&agree with) the bad. But I also see some possibility.

What does that look like in practice? With the rapidly changing landscape subscription services can add up.

I hear ya. I think it will be a polarized debate for years to come. I was initially quite against it also. But I do see some space for possibility. Plus, I don’t think it’s going anywhere. Is it just art you’re worried about? Is there any use you can see as optimistic?
comment in response to

It can make some forms of art more accessible, no? Especially the very expensive to produce kind. Cameras didn’t erase painters. Art is subjective. There’s a lot to figure out with laws, licensing, etc but is it really all bad?
