Grieving Missouri ex-pat. Dabbles in quizbowl and trivia sometimes. Loves road trips, bad food, and hard country music. Some have called me "The Missouri Gentleman;" YMMV.

The bigger question: How can we defend democracy when Americans clearly don't care?

You cannot be a Christian and support Christian boarding schools in red states who beat and rape kids. But a lot of them do it anyway.

I live in the D.C. area and I wanted to go, but I was stuck in bed all of last week. 🤒 Would ordering a copy of Sloppy make a good form of penance?

I've never been able to do some of the things I wanted: Live life without my mental health crippling me, promiscuous sex, etc.
But there's two things I can do and do often: Eating lots of bad food and going on the road.
Am I doing this right?? 🙂

Waylon's my spirit animal. I lived so much of his life. Only without all the hits and the money and the booze and the women and the coke and the singing ability.

So why is it progressives always lose comfortable Democratic seats?

Right-wing Christians beating children goes back further than that, but the Republicans have tried to cover it up. Notice the ongoing struggle in Missouri (dominated by starkly fascist right-wing Christians) to get any Republican authority to do ANYTHING about their Christian boarding schools.

That's an increasingly attractive option.

Except the Republicans will scream that their audits would be phony to cover up Democratic corruption.
We're talking about people who quite seriously believe that every number in the federal budget is a bold-faced lie.

I said that before the TV show ever started. I had to quit watching that after the first season because I've witnessed so much of that that it made me uncontrollably angry.

We've been there since 9/11 and most Americans don't really care.

To be fair, a significant amount of Americans don't believe in heliocentrism.

But where's the smoking gun? I'm an old-school American: I believe in facts and evidence. Where are the behaviors? Where are the actions? Who specifically are the guilty parties?

Percentages are what I'm talking about. The nationwide turnout in 2020 was 66.6%, which was the highest *percentage* turnout since 1900. Turnout in '24 was just under 64%, still the second highest since 1960.

Some of those voters who didn't vote or switched to Trump are telling us why in focus groups, and we refuse to listen.

Exactly. Americans don't know what they want. When someone like Obama comes along who attempts major reforms, Americans hate it instantly. All we want to do is bitch.

Never going to happen as long as the Republican Party continues to exist.

I'm tired of this argument of "so many Americans didn't vote." We've got the HIGHEST turnout in 120 years right now! Why is this a problem all of a sudden now??

Problem: Americans never believe it's bird flu. To most people, "bird flu" is simply a euphemism for something far more sinister. We'll just blame the Democrats as we've been doing. 🙄

The Republicans tolerate Christian boarding schools that beat and rape children with impunity. This has been a known issue for decades. We should've rained holy hell on them 20 years ago.

If Democrats had any guts, we'd have ads on every channel showing LGBTQs, the disabled, drag queens, etc., being dragged into concentration camps. Because a LOT of Republicans want that. That's just one example, but that's the kind of thing we should've done 20 years ago.
