I'm American and I don't take it personally. It's pretty obvious it's not.

Yes, I remember. Younger folks can Google it.

There might be a silver lining if Ukraine can build their own. Still sucks, no doubt.

I despise Trump, but every US President this century has been telling Europeans collectively to spend more on their own defense. The Baltics, Poles, and Finns understand. Freeriding on the US saves money for defense but leads to problems later.

You'd expect her to have a little more backbone, being a vet and all.

Because it's a way to shut down the conversation. That was pure theatrics. This guy doesn't give a shit.

Me either.

I know. The more you think about it, the funnier it gets

Nope. We need him.

Hitler's birthday?

He really is trying to be Putin.

Honestly, what difference does it make? What are they going to do, vote about it? They're afraid to stand up to their tsar, and the war goes on.

A have a friend who lived very close to Bucha but refused to leave. Fortunately, the russians never got to her house. Got a lot of respect for that. I was also very happy to hear the "gesture of goodwill" i.e. russian withdrawal.

Seriously, I watched his whole Yale history lecture series on Ukraine. It was really interesting and I learned a lot.

I don't know. I honestly don't care what other people do if it's consenting adults - be gay, straight, old, young whatever. I got my own problems. But I suppose straight guys who listen to women should be happy there are so many bitter dudes other there to make the competition easier.

They will, until it's too late.

Those who know, know. My Finnish in-laws are very aware of what Russia is all about. It's just psychopathic edgelords that support Russia in the west.
comment in response to post
I don't know. But I'm 100% sure Russia will never honor any commitment to peace if they think they can still win.

MAGA doesn't care. So long as the people they hate suffer.

Fuck Trump, but what you're saying isn't true. Biden gave 20 Mi-17s to Ukraine that were originally for Afghanistan. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

I'd be pissed, too. This American, at least, appreciates how good neighbors you've been. Nor have I forgotten the sacrifices your country made in Afghanistan after we were attacked.

Preaching to the choir with me.

I honestly get it. Hoping for sanity in the future.

It is stupid. And neither country benefits from it.

The Canadians have been good neighbors for 200 years. It's the longest undefended border in the world. I hate that we're treating them like this. I don't blame them for being angry. This will pass but I hate it.

We're being governed like a reality TV show - drama, a crisis, it's solved, new crisis.

I love this.

Oppress me harder, Daddy!

I know. Hihtoa is to ski. Makes the expression even funnier.
comment in response to post
I think the funniest Finnish expression I've ever heard is "Suksi vittuun!" Like why skis? It's hilarious!

Can't tell if you're being sarcastic. I totally get it if you are. The whole thing is awful.

Keep up the good fight!

Got it. Had I been there, I would have been one of them. I absolutely despise Musk. I knew he was weird, but I didn't know he was a full-on Nazi.
comment in response to post
No. It was one of the suggestions of the protest. I own a Tesla I bought before the Musk outed himself as a Nazi. I don't see how selling it damages him, as the car would still be driven. I totally support boycotting new sales and protesting dealerships.
comment in response to post
Right, but if you already own it and have no plans on buying another, how does that damage Musk? And the new owner is still driving the Tesla you sold.
comment in response to post
English only has a few swear words. Finnish has a lot of them. Sounds like Ukrainian does, too, which is more fun. That's what I meant.
comment in response to post
I get boycotting Tesla, but how does selling a Tesla someone already owns supposed to change anything?
comment in response to post
This made my day. Thanks.
comment in response to post
My Finnish wife won me over early on when she complained that English doesn't have enough swear words. Sounds like Ukrainian is the same.
comment in response to post
I've never been more ashamed of my country than I was on Friday. I'm a veteran, too, so this hits double hard to see the damage this does.

I guess I have to add one more thing, my Finnish relatives had to evacuate because of Soviet aggression. Finland's story in WWII is a lot like yours now. I can't help understanding.
comment in response to post
Also, salo sounds disgusting, but it actually tastes good. Did you know there is a place called Salo in Finland? (I have family in the US and Finland.)
comment in response to post
Your resiliency, "sisu" as the Finns call it. But also you're in between east and west in Europe. But like a lot of things, these things are personal. I've worked with a few Ukrainians and they were smart people with a very sarcastic sense of humor that I love.
comment in response to post
Been following you and a few other Ukrainian journalists since 2022 on Twitter before I left that app. I enjoy learning about Ukraine.
