Seemingly lost in all of the NYT coverage is that what the Supreme Court did was effectively lower the evidentiary bar that state's have to meet to justify their bans. The lower courts that applied heightened scrutiny universally blocked the bans.

This framing is beneath contempt. The Christian right and MAGA launched an unprecedented assault on the civil rights of a tiny minority and successfully weaponized the pseudoliberal establishment - led by the NYT - to provide it with a medical controversy pretext that doesn’t actually exist.

Sharing this update provided to me directly about the state of NLM and the future of NNLM, traveling exhibits, and, somehow, MedlinePlus. I am so worried for friends and colleagues, and I'm stuck on that, but it is hard to not want to scream WTF about a MedlinePlus with no new material. #medlibs

Today is the 160th anniversary of the official ending of the practice of slavery in the United States. Happy Juneteenth!

Reporter: Five fellow mayoral candidates came here within 90 minutes of you being arrested and called for your release. What does that say about the tenor of the mayor's race? Lander: Was one of them Andrew Cuomo? Reporter: It was not. Lander: Imagine that!

So Starship Ship 36 just detonated *before* the static fire test - fueled and waiting for the test. Looks like the top tank lets go and sets off the whole stack. It would be bad enough if it let go during the static fire test, but it just blew up. And it's cooking off the fuel tanks on the pad.

The same people demanding you present a photo ID to vote are perfectly fine with letting you be arrested, handcuffed & thrown into a van by armed men wearing plain clothes, face masks & presenting no identification of any sort.

Wild how the Fed chair saying that *entire regions of the United States* won’t be able to get a mortgage in the next decade barely registered as a news event

Take the masks off. Show your badges. This is America.

An incredibly interesting half-hour video from the Second Story about why there "hasn't been another Tolkien". The answer is... not what you think.

FOX: The Committee for a Responsible Budget came out today and said it will add $15 trillion to the debt THUNE: This will reduce the deficit, not increase it

Here are some nice mushrooms

“A superb officer and leader by every measure,” one commander wrote of her in a 2011 performance review. “Without a doubt a future tactical battalion commander,” another wrote 4 years later. There was “no limit” to her potential in the Army, a third supervisor added when she was promoted to major.”

Ancient miasma theory may help explain Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s vaccine moves www.npr.org/sections/sho...

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. apparently embraces the outdated "miasma theory" of disease instead of the widely accept "germ theory" of disease, which may help explain some of the actions he's been taking.

New NASA administrator expected to embrace the outdated “geocentric model” of the solar system instead of the widely accepted “heliocentric model”

I hope nobody likes avocados, celery, strawberries, or anything else from California because the farms near me are empty and all the little bootleg produce stands have disappeared

ICE agents pulled this guy out of his car and beat the shit out of him, putting him in the E.R. Then they pulled him out of the hospital saying he was a "violent gang member." (He's a Doordash driver with only a traffic ticket on his record.) Now he's just...gone. What a nightmare.

I just watched a video of police shooting a protester in the head with a rubber bullet… and then refusing to call 911 because “this was your fault” Classic abuser move. Cause the problem & then blame the victim. Who are they really protecting & serving???

🧪 The entire Fulbright Board resigned, citing the Trump administration's alleged usurpation of authority and denial of selected recipients. They assert these actions contradict the Fulbright-Hays Act and undermine the program's bipartisan mission. #AcademicSky

“I can feel my conversations becoming less human. AI doesn’t do small talk. It misses the subtle, layered things we humans are used to. So I strip away pieces of myself, layer by layer. What’s left feels rigid—almost cold.” www.thisisweave.com/post/ai-know...
