My problem is compounded by multiple OneDrive accounts, including two for work (an individual one and a department one). I already use IDrive to back up my computer daily, so at this point my files are all over the place.

Every feature Microsoft adds to "help" makes this worse and more confusing. I got a new Windows machine about 3 years ago and I still have trouble trying to save files on the local drive. It keeps trying to put them on OneDrive cloud storage, which I really don't want or need.

In recent decades, boards have been populated by wealthy donors who mistakenly believe that business success gives them insight into running a university. Schools have created this problem by cultivating these donors at the expense of board members who understand campus culture (and challenges).

Garry Trudeau was on the topic during his first term.

Don't you love how Duffy blames the last Democratic administration for this, when the problem has been going on for years? The GOP regularly cuts funding for government agencies, then complains when they don't operate properly. And what about Reagan decertifying PATCO in 1981?

Thanks for sharing these photos. I read your piece in yesterday's print edition and was intrigued by your descriptions of the building. I think you are on your way to creating an "off the beaten track" travel guide to Philadelphia.

Classic case of the Dunning-Kruger effect. They think they know what they're doing, but...

Great piece. I also enjoyed your tribute to the Daily News in Sunday's paper. I grew up in New York, and its Daily News also had that cheeky, sassy attitude. I remember when the Mets won the NL the same day VP Agnew resigned. My friends debated which headline would appear on the front page.

Loved this phrase: "..Trump’s ubiquitous sidekick, Elon Musk..."

From shutting down USAID to talking about taking over Gaza, doesn't it seem like Trump is determined to create a whole new generation of terrorists?

I appreciate your efforts to question conventional wisdom by using, you know, data.

Good choice.

On a related note, are you aware of any schools that have reimagined their catalogs? It seems like most of us have included the same content for decades, even though much of it is duplicated on the website.

Do we really think that if a concert organizer pays less for the venue (due to the competition), that those savings are passed down to ticket buyers? There is a finite number of events that need a 20,000 seat arena.

Exciting to see your work cited in that context. Congratulations!

There's a great line in Jane Smiley's novel "Moo" about the university's stated goal of excellence in all areas, versus the provost's own secret goal of adequacy in most areas.

The episode where she and Geordi are presumed dead was particularly good.

Plus Ensign Ro was a nice addition to the crew. It's too bad they didn't keep her around longer.

The first season was awkward as the actors and writers were still getting a feel for the characters. Plus Denise Crosby was just awful as Tasha Yar. Season two was okay, but I'd suggest watching seasons 3 - 7.

Really an excellent season. Great episodes like Darmok, Cause and Effect, and The Inner Light. Terrific guest stars Matt Frewer, Paul Winfield, Leonard Nimoy, Famke Janssen, Ray Walston, and a brief appearance by Kelsey Grammer.

Understatement of the year: "The department chair is a complex middle-management position..."
comment in response to post
I remember a dean once telling me that "department chairs are populists." It helped me understand my interactions with the chairs (I was registrar at the time).

Nice column. It's pretty ridiculous that it took Adam Silver stating the obvious--that two arenas in a city this size would hurt all parties--to torpedo the foolish Market East plan. Our elected officials look foolish.
comment in response to post
"Silver, who has served as NBA commissioner since 2014, believed that having two competing Philadelphia arena projects in the same timeframe would be detrimental to both the city and the teams, according to the sources."
comment in response to post
It is ridiculous that Adam Silver could clearly see the problem with competing arenas when our elected official couldn't or wouldn't. www.inquirer.com/politics/phi...

If anything good came from this debacle, it was the discussion led by your colleague @ingasaffron.bsky.social and others about the appropriate priorities to consider when redeveloping Market Street and the rest of center city.

Claiming that the problem was bias is ridiculous. It's practically impossible to fact-check to everyone's satisfaction. "Reality is often messy, and the very setup of “fact checking” seems to presume there are “yes/no” answers to questions that require a lot more nuance and detail."

Starting to notice this as well. A fair number of these accounts have profile photos of attractive young women--not sure what the endgame is.

I live in a postwar suburb in Chesco. When ranch houses go up for sale, they are almost always torn down and replaced with McMansions. Nothing like this monstrosity, but it's still changing the neighborhoods.

This started out like an episode of "Law and Order." It is now looking like an episode of "Law and Order: Criminal Intent."
