3) I think Bluesky is working rather well as a market of ideas. There are a ton of really fucking smart and earnest people here. Theyâre not gatekeeping theyâre asking you to see your position through. They are assuming that you are willing to have your ideas challenged on rational and moral grounds

âOh hey i wasnât following you let me remedy thatâ

If I say âI am not interested in your bothsidesing bullshit about trans people existingâ, and you arenât willing to consider that you might be bothsidesing someoneâs existence with someone elseâs armchair âjust asking questionsâ, then yes absolutely we are blocking you.

Point is, people complaining about being bullied off this platform, at least the cases Iâve seen, just didnât want to deal with legit critiques and receipts.
I think thatâs a super healthy boundary for us to set on this site.

If we are going to have actual productive civil discourse there have got to be some shared ground rules about trustworthiness and intent. I check my biases. I am ready to be wrong. Heck I assume I get things wrong at least as often ad I get them right.

Each personâs position doesnât have an inherent right to a share of voice. Itâs not censorship to sanction and reject the anti science bullshit in the MAHA report, for example. Itâs a fucking public service. As long as itâs done transparently. Thatâs why I keep talking about people who are âearnestâ

2) if the diversity you are missing are positions of hegemony and oppression, those arenât positions, but anti-positions.
Letting in the âwe think you and your position should be eliminatedâ voices doesnât add to diversity and discourse it undermines it. See Popperâs paradox of tolerance

Ok but seriously @mcuban.bsky.social what viewpoints are missing? Be specific. I encounter a ton of diversity here. What I donât see is the antiintellectual crap we get from ppl like NoahSmith, the fascism, racism, hate, etc. Iâm genuinely curious what earnest positions you think arenât welcome here
