Just up from a singing Lesser Whitethroat in our lane was this Common Whitethroat #ukbirding #cheshirebirding

I’ve not heard one for a few weeks but this Lesser Whitethroat was singing along our lane this morning #ukbirding #cheshirebirding

Another new moth species for the garden last night. Despite the weather it was a reasonable catch. My trap is situated under a gazebo to help protect from the rain! #teammoth

Also a few micros in the moth trap last night. A beautiful Green Oak Tortrix & a number of Garden Grass Veneers #teammoth

Barred Straw & Uncertain were new for the garden in the moth trap last night #teammoth

I’ll be there with @hilbre.bsky.social representing @birdobscouncil.bsky.social A great event & one I look forward to every year

Just retrapped this venerable old male Greater- Spotted Woodpecker in our garden. Ringed on 17/5/20 as an adult at least one year old making him just over 6 years old! #ukbirding #birdringing

Poplar Grey & Small Pheonix new for the garden in the moth trap this morning #teammoth

New blog post: wirralbirders.blogspot.com/2025/06/wood... #ukbirding #cheshirebirding

Caught 2 different male Greater-spotted Woodpeckers in the garden today within an hour. We’ve got a pair feeding a juv that visits most days & I assumed we only had one male. One was a new bird & the other ringed as adult in May 2022 #ukbirding #cheshirebirding #birdringing

Another beautiful Green Silver-lines in the garden this morning #teammoth

Cardinal Beetle in our garden yesterday afternoon. Landed alongside me whilst I was sitting watching the antics of all the juvenile birds that have appeared

We’ve been watching this Bank Vole hoovering up spilt sunflower hearts beneath the bird feeders from our conservatory window. Youngest grandaughter loves it & sits looking for it for ages

Very scruffy looking adult Blue Tit feeding a newly fledged youngster on our lawn. It’ll soon be starting its post breeding moult. Taken through kitchen by window #ukbirding #cheshirebirding

Green Pug was a new species for our garden in the moth trap this morning #teammoth

Another ‘little brown job’ in the moth trap this morning. Pebble hook-tip #teammoth

Not the best looking of moths but this Snout was new for the year in the garden this morning #teammoth

Poplar Hawkmoth warming itself up by vibrating its wings in the garden early this morning #teammoth

Great to see these Greater -butterfly Orchids whilst ringing Pied Flycatchers with @alanhilbre71.bsky.social in N Wales this morning. We didn’t think there were any but eventually found a few just coming in to flower #ukorchids #botany

Lovely few hours checking Pied Flycatcher nest boxes in a wood in N Wales with @alanhilbre71.bsky.social Two broods ringed. 3 too small & we’ll go back next week & 1 female on eggs. 1 very recent brood dead in box. The recent wet weather hasn’t helped #ukbirding #birdringing

I’m lucky enough to get Stock Doves visiting our garden. They’re beautifully coloured with that lovely iridescent green sheen. This one was ringed under licence this morning & is a 2nd calendar year female #ukbirding #cheshirebirding #birdeinging

Middle- barred Minor in the garden this morning. A new species for the garden. A wet & windy night meant a very poor catch this morning #teammoth

Common Swift in the garden this morning #teammoth

Scorched Wing the best of a wet nights catch in the garden last night. A new species for the garden

Another garden corvid ringed under licence this morning. We get quite a few Jays visiting our garden & they’ve learnt to use the peanut feeders. Beautiful colours but a hook tipped bill to be very wary of #ukbirding #cheshireburdibg #birdringing

New for the year in moth trap this morning. Straw Dot. Also my 2nd Poplar Hawkmoth of the year. I’m surrounded by improved pasture & the dearth of moths compared to our previous urban garden is a testament of how impoverished rural areas can be for wildlife

Female Jackdaw, ringed under licence in our garden this morning, showing beautiful eye colour and black tongue! She has a brood patch so feeding young locally #ukbirding #cheshirebirding #birdringing

My mate Seán Ronayne has made a beautiful film called ‘Birdsong’. It's one of the best things I've seen in years & it's on the telly next week ! Well worth a look. See it on Weds 12th March, BBC4 at 9pm. It should be on iplayer too. Here’s a trailer. #UKBirding www.youtube.com/watch?v=3D3h...

Found this Pignut growing in the wildflower patch in our garden. First I’ve seen around here

Green Silverlines the best of a slightly improved moth catch last night. Mottled Rustic & Pale Mottled Willow new for me #teammoth

Dyers Greenweed beginning to flower along the cycle path in our village. So called as it always used to dye fabrics yellow.

Yellow Meadow Ants nests along a cycle path in our village.

Volume up! Beautiful Song Thrush singing from our garden this morning. Exquisite #ukbirding #cheshirebirding

UK moth-ers. Is this a Bee Moth. Caught in our garden. We have Tree Bee’s nest in one of our nest boxes nearby #teammoth

The walk in traps in the garden have been attracting a few Magpies & Jackdaws. Not everyone’s favourite birds but fascinating in their own way. Jackdaws are hole nesters & magpies build their own covered fortified nest. Ringed under licence #ukbirding #cheshirebirding #birdringing
