They're not playing the same role. Xabi see Arda as a midfielder.

Or they know that Rodrygo isn't available despite Arsenal fans' make-a-wish transfer hope.

They're going to buy a CB regardless. They need a bigger squad.

Agree, but they may have £50m in mind, and no one is paying that. Spurs offered £55 +10m in January, and they said no. Newcastle offered £60m+ last summer, and they insisted on £70m with the knowledge he wasn't extending

OK. What's £40m compared to the risk of getting relegated?

They're playing in Europe next season. They need a bigger squad if they don't want to be in a relegation battle. I dont think we want to pay £50m for him. Palace may think keeping him has that much value to them.

He's a top tier CB. He still has room for improvement.

I won't be surprised if we see him, Nico, as a long term Virg successor. At least, Klopp was a fan when he was at the helm.

Yes. If we want him and are okay with getting him next year, we definitely still have a spot to fill this year. Who the choice is will be interesting. I think we'd have bought Schlotterbeck this summer but for his torn meniscus.

That's why I found his choice curious. If we didn't tell him Ibou will leave and he still wants to come, in a world cup year as England's starting CB, power to him. He's a very good CB. I have issues with his aerial win rate, but he's good ans may even elevate his level playing with better players.

My read is like, Palace is asking for an unreasonable £ and he and us are telling them he'll wait until next year if they remain unreasonable. So, unless we get a nudge that they will take what we think is reasonable, we won't bid.
comment in response to

It's played out like this:
1. Our Interest became public, and a bid was said to be imminent.
2. Then, it sounded like he's just "one of the options on the list"
3. He came out to say he's willing to leave for free.
4. We heard news that we're his choice.
5. Then, we'll bid if the price is right.

Where VVD plays. So he's 2 years out to being a starter. You're right, we've told him something good enough to make him want to come now or leave for free if Palace don't play ball. One of those things, considering this is a world cup years that he'll want to be playing, maybe that he's a starter.

Imagine you're Guehi, what do you think you've been sold to come to #LFC when the 2 guys in situ are better than you, in a world cup year and when you're entering your prime?
1. Win trophies
2. You'll be a starter in 2 years after VVD leaves
Or:
You're starting now?

Or, Ibou is leaving this summer?

Fair. It's six and half a dozen between the two (in terms of where they are in their development) but I get why anyone can choose either.

Seriously, Kev, rank Sesko, Gyokares, Osihmen and Ekitike at same transfer fee and wages.

Opinions.
comment in response to

Even at £60m, I'd take everyone over him. I'd take Sesko over him. I'd take a 27 year old Gyokares over him. I just don't see it. He obviously still have room to develop and improve, but I don't see his shooting and think prolific.

Of all the strikers available, Eketike is at the bottom of the pile for me.

Either his agent is the hardest working agent in world football or Dickie Hughes is trying to get Chelsea to pay a load of cash for a player he has no interest in.

Even with that, we're still a small team.

When Nunez leaves, where is that CF?

Fabrizio had him signed like 20 of the 25.

That's definitely a United shirt. And I think I once read that he was a United fan.

You're going to pay me for this to go away. It's like when you get given a nickname you don't like in school. The worst thing you can do is to complain about it lmao

Set pieces is the main worry I have tbh. If one of your 2 CBs is below average, you're in a lot of trouble. This league is about first balls and second balls. Decides more than half of the games.
comment in response to

HG isn't the reason you'll not get done aerially in this league.
comment in response to

He's not bad. He just doesn't fit how we're constructed as a team.

He's not. Listen to @marcotti.bsky.social, who has covered him for the longest, speak about him.

unless a club's SM handle shares a racial meme about him.

Dean is 6'4". Tbf you make a good point. Saliba has a worse aerial duel win rate and he's 6'4". Gabrielle Maghalaese is an inch shorter than Saliba, and he has a double figure win rate better than Saliba. And he's a bloody better defender too.
I'm trying my best to talk myself into this lmao.

We'll see. I struggle with his aerial shortcomings tbh. We are not a big team already and the guy we just bought for a lot of money is t a 6-footer. The team is getting smaller in that sense, and that's a negative in this league. Hopefully, Konate extends and we buy another aerial duel monster.

He's a very good football player.

Nunez was 6 years too, or?
comment in response to

At the end of the day, trust what your eyes tell you. It's a head-scratcher for me. You could make the argument about his contract situation, age, PL experience and HG. But that alone and the salary he'd be on as a 3rd/4th option; England international, who'd expect to play, is confusing to me.

Still not sure why it's a 5 year deal. Maybe that's what the kid is comfortable with. But for what we're paying, it should be a 5+1 minimum.
