ICE pretended to arrest a 21 yo in order to force her to call her undocumented mother to come leave the house (where she was safe from ICE arrest) to care for her baby. When the mother came, she was abducted and the daughter was suddenly of no interest to ICE. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

Amazing how hard it is to write: “Police shoot at journalists.”

Bob Costas Condemns Mainstream Press for Doing ‘MAGA Media’: ‘There Really Isn’t Two Sides’

If they were genuinely serious about the military ethic, they’d be resigning at this very moment but with every minute that passes I doubt that’s going to happen

I worry that it’s too much to expect careers military officers to speak up about this, but Jess is right: this is a shocking breach of American traditions. George Washington is rolling in his grave.

"Bothsidesism is 'suicide for democracy.' In becoming stenographers rather than reporters, journalists effectively legitimize MAGA lies, hate, and fascism as just one reasonable side of a debate in which all partisans are equally credible."

The same people who shoveled money to a settle bogus case with Trump, have now fired Terry Moran for telling the truth. No one should wonder why viewers are abandoning legacy media in droves. www.cnn.com/2025/06/10/m...

House and Senate leaders should demand resignations from both Major General Pat Work, the 82nd Airborne Division commander, and Colonel Chad Mixon, the Fort Bragg garrison commander. This was possibly the most partisan speech ever delivered by a commander-in-chief to U.S. troops.

I wrote in February that objective control and dual loyalty was dead but I think unless there are resignations within the next 48 hours, the military ethic and basic tenants of professionalism are also dead

(Ahem) John Yoo is wrong about executive power. Following the Rodney King uprising Bush I invoked *the Insurrection Act.* Same with all Yoo’s other examples. The IA doesn’t mandate cooperation. Trump invoked a statute that clearly specifies a role for the governor. This is different.

"nullification of the election results" = "winning imbued trump with sovereign authority and so all opposition to him is illegitimate and illegal"

@glitterburrito.bsky.social is one of the best out there! Thank you so much for everything. 🖤

They literally did this in 2020 as protests were winding down in Portland - throwing people into unmarked vans, demanding to know the leader of "ANTIFA." It ended with thousands mobilizing night after night. This strategy works when people shrug and go about their day.

conservatives are beginning to publicly workshop their rehabilitation of jeffery epstein lol

This is the single greatest BHtM clip ever and Mothersbaugh isn’t joking because he’s said this MORE than once since. He has been Legitimately Mad about Weird Al making the best Devo song.

Living my hoochiest daddiest life before I go back to work tomorrow.

I feel like maybe the framing of Trump sending the military to put down protests as a "feud" between Trump and Newsom is a little weird?

A full Tejano band in a big truck rolled into the Olvera St, the lead singer has a Fuck ICE shirt on, and this protest is now a dance party

Lol

Mobilize and deploy US troops against fellow Americans. Make fellow Americans look like they’re the “enemy within”. Distort the truth to make it look like LEGAL protests are something criminal in nature. It’s more of the “us versus them” propaganda from Convicted Felon Donald Trump.

Conspiracy to engage in speech critical of the regime bsky.app/profile/empt...

The administration has been hitting the “invasion” rhetoric and portraying the protests as being driven by immigrants because, as in the Alien Enemies Act cases, they want to use wartime and battlefield measures. Don’t let the rhetoric go by uncontradicted.

It would be so great if Democratic elected officials started acting as if the president was trying to arrest them all, because he is.

Transformative work of the day:

marco rubio about to get another job title lol

You know when things were pretty quiet and peaceful in L.A.? Before ICE started arresting residents who were bothering no one and going to their jobs. And before DHS and National Guard troops showed up and made the situation worse. Of course Trump and Stephen Miller want the situation to get worse.

It’s a Nazi bar.

Don't let Trump and Musk's feud obscure their fundamental agreement: Both men and the party they own are committed to taking as much as possible from Americans who need help in order to give to those who have more than they could ever want www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Trump has federalized at least 2,000 National Guard forces and reportedly plans to deploy troops to Los Angeles over Governor Newsom’s objections. If that happens, it will be the first time since 1965 that a president has sent troops into a state without a state request. 1/19

Trump has not invoked in the Insurrection Act—he’s "instead relying on a theory of inherent constitutional power that is far more limited." In @lawfaremedia.org, Chris Mirasola explains the "protective power" and corrects the mischaracterizations of what Trump has authorized in the memo.

It's necessary to keep pointing out: all this is not because ICE wants to deport murderers and rapists. It's because ICE is going to Home Depot parking lots, courthouses, and elementary school graduations to round up peaceful families, many seeking asylum, which means they are here legally.

Countries around the world need to start asking, how can the U.S. possibly host the World Cup in 2026? How would foreign visitors feel safe coming here?

Note THUS FAR, LAT is covering this as a response to Trump's ICE escalation (other outlets are treating the protests as the spark).

I've seen little comment abt assault-and-arrest of David Huerta, which preceded Trump's escalation yesterday, and which fits the model we saw with Delaney Hall and Jerry Nadler's office. Unlike the prior targets, Huerta doesn't have obvious immunity. He was also injured in the assault.

Strategy is clear. "Ratchet up raids on peaceful people . . Use protests against draconian raids to arrest Democratic leaders & invade a blue city. Point to chaos created by Miller’s draconian ICE raids to demand passage of Big Ugly bill . .Create chaos, & use it to codify authoritarian power."

I guess Stephen Miller ordered the invasion of CA while Trump was out partying!

2,000 National Guard to quell dozens of protestors is an authoritarian show of force.

Reminder that this country had an insurrection on Jan 6 and Trump refused to send in the National Guard.

if you're not tuned into US politics you may see "LA County Sheriffs Department" and think that's just what they call their normal police but they are actually a network of violent organized white supremacist gangs with tattoos, a code of silence, initiation rites that require police brutality, etc

Didn’t expect this from Scientific American but here we are. (Article from 2020 but everything still relevant including COVID precautions)

Every member of the military has a legal, moral, and strategic obligation to resist and refuse unlawful orders
