Zur Lektüre ans Herz gelegt

I get annoyed at the narrative that all the awareness and work on climate change hasn't done anything. Yes, global CO₂ emissions indeed continue to climb, but we don't know the counterfactual. When I was in grad school, we were on track for 5°C of warming. Now it's below 3°C. That's progress.

In absolutely shocking news that is a surprise to nobody, the German government is trying to move consumption spending into the "investment" bit (for which it granted itself generous exemptions from the debt brake). But this one is particularly brazen. #gas

🚨 4-Mrd-Trick: Gasspeicherumlage wird zur "Klimamaßnahme" umdeklariert Bisher: Nur Gaskunden zahlen Künftig: ALLE über Steuern Auch Wärmepumpen-Nutzer zahlen dann für russische Energiekrise-Altlasten mit 🤔 Kreative Buchführung at its finest? #Energiepolitik #Mogelplan www.stern.de/politik/deut...

This chart is an important one regarding the "Bluesky is dying" discourse – in a thread that is very much worth reading i.e. Bluesky’s current trajectory is very similar to early Twitter (If i had the time, which I don’t atm, i would have compared statistically the two time series)

👩‍🏫 The #EAERE2025 David Pearce keynote lecture, titled “Climate Progress in a Trump II World?”, was held by Prof. Catherine Wolfram, MIT Sloan School of Management.

Last day of the #EAERE2025 conference in Bergen with a big group of researchers from @unileipzig.bsky.social and @idiv-research.bsky.social working on various sustainability issues (photo from yesterday with typical Bergen weather) @eaere.bsky.social

Die europäische Fachgesellschaft Umweltökonomik (EAERE) hat ihn mit dem European Award for Researchers in Environmental Economics under the Age of Forty ausgezeichnet. 🎉 Weitere Infos hier: 👉 www.eaere.org/european-awa...

Great to have collaborated with José Bruno Fevereiro, @ecoclassical.bsky.social, and colleagues on this review, now published in Ecological Economics. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... #CircularEconomy @ussee.bsky.social

Attending the #EAERE2025 conference is not only about presenting and discussing current environmental-economic research. It's also about getting together and having fun - for example by singing out loud jointly at a karaoke bar. @eaere.bsky.social

✨ Highlights of #EAERE2025 day 3 ✨ The day started with the keynote lecture by Prof. Tatyana Deryugina, immediately followed by the traditional #EAEREawards ceremony. Our #members were honoured by several recognitions, reflecting the dedication and impact of their work. 🏆

Congrats! PIK’s @linusmattauch.bsky.social honoured today with the prestigious “European Award for Researchers in Environmental Economics under the Age of Forty”. @eaere.bsky.social emphasised the policy relevance of his research & the high number of publications. www.pik-potsdam.de/en/news/late...

👩‍🏫 Today’s keynote lecturer, Prof. Tatyana Deryugina (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign), addressed the plenary of #EAERE2025 to discuss a crucial topic: “Understanding the Impacts of Natural Disasters”

The first official report from Spain's blackout: a collection of big generators (coal, gas, nuclear) failed to absorb voltage issues as they were meant to. That led to major generation outages, which led to an unstoppable collapse.

The official report on the blackout in Spain and Portugal was just released. I'll give a quick summary of findings and provide some additional info. TL;DR conventional power plants didn't control the voltage as planned over-voltage caused renewables to turn off as required

We are happy to announce that Environmental and Resource Economics will soon require non-exempted authors of empirical papers to post code and data in an open repository. Ana, Ian and I will all be in beautiful Bergen for #EAERE2025 so why not seek us out if you want to hear more. #EconSky

#EAERE2025 is here! This morning, we already had an excellent pre-EAERE workshop on Climate Policy in Low-and Middle Income countries. Now, I am looking forward to an interesting conference and meeting many old friends and making new ones @eaere.bsky.social

We're excited to be at this year’s #EAERE2025 Conference in beautiful #Bergen, with all researchers from the #PECan Research Group! 🌍 Over the next few days, we’ll be presenting some of our latest work: 1/7👇

Sadly, I can’t be at #EAERE2025 myself but lots of our work will be presented 👇🏼

Departure from Leipzig: Train – Bus – Train | 28 hours later, I’ve arrived in Bergen. Looking forward to the discussions at #EAERE2025 and to hearing about others’ travel stories!

Looking forward to meeting many colleagues at #EAERE2025 in Bergen this week. We will present two papers: 1. What remains on site? Local business tax revenue from wind power in Germany (@janniklasmeier.bsky.social) 2. Feasibility and trade-offs of spatially equitable renewable energy deployment

Excited for next week's European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (@eaere.bsky.social) conference in Bergen. I am especially interested in hearing about (marine) carbon dioxide removal and causal inference for ecosystem services and biodiversity. (Photos from last year's EAERE)

🤩 The 30th Conference of #EAERE is starting tomorrow! 📸📸📸 Do not forget to tag #EAERE2025 so we can collect and repost your photos! We have also created an open shared folder where you can upload all your pictures: drive.google.com/drive/folder... Looking forward to seeing you in Bergen! 🏞️

They've been tracking the cherry blossom dates in Japan for over 1200 years. The record for earliest peak blossom date occurred in 2023, at the 84th day of the year. Urbanization and anthropogenic climate change are the primary drivers of this change in the average peak.
