Yeh this is really disappointing, anti-science perspective too. Surely adding genetic data to what we know about specific poverty/housing/social drivers of ill health might help to disentangle complex causal chains and open up a bunch of new ways to address all sorts of things

Is the rise of (quieter) electric vehicles gonna lead to a great cockney-expansion? Or did the bells just get quieter?

Yeh, it's like cos-playing at properly winning for them. Bless

I think it's OK - they've been conned into thinking winning '37th best team in europe' actually means something substantial. It's perfect for them really. Shiny pot for limited real win

Is that true? If a counter attacking team doesn’t get many shots on goal it’s just not a good counter attacking team, and won’t get much xG, right?

Crikey. Ok then, I’ll help you out. ‘Building thousands of homes… isn’t the solution to the housing crisis’

I'm asking everyone to take this opportunity to consider this, the vast gulf between what AI companies are promising—hyper-intelligent, world-changing AI—and what's happening on the ground, right now: Cruel and lazy people using the products those companies are selling to tank the economy.

John Lewis advert kick-started it, but the most common need for these now is in shonky reality telly where they want the lyrics & familiarity of a 80s/90s hit, but maximally emotional vibe. I call it "Love Island Acoustic Slop"

This book sketched it out pretty clearly 10 years ago too... feels like a strong candidate for a 'slowly, then all at once' effect in in the next few years IMO

I guess all the evidence they need to publish will be via one lowly grunt loitering at a mid-west dealership until someone willing to wear a MAGA hat on camera shows up?

I just want 'litter advice' but that would need the photo to be kid + mum playing with puppies rather than draughts 🤷‍♂️🥲

Big Short doesn't feel right to me as an analogy as its so clearly a case of financialisation gone wild without any fundamental innovation happening. Dot com feels closer - loads of """very smart""" investors hyping that buying pet food is gonna be fundamentally changed because .com/chatbots...

I think fair. Maybe I'm coming down on the side of this feeling like early dot com bubble days (when, admitedly, I was 13 so could be wrong 🤷‍♂️): insane, but driving enough capital investment to lay the foundations and create capabilities that will enable the future
