Maybe, this time it will work.
I mean, it hasn’t every other time this has been tried, but perhaps this is the moment…

Ah, the 1950s, when Enoch Powell was trying to encourage people from the Caribbean to come to the UK to work in hospitals.

And yet, there’s nothing wrong with the track being played in those sort of places. It is perfectly anodyne.

I can show you thousands of people in my city who don’t care about stigma. They just want somewhere to live.

And also licence all private rented housing. No exceptions.

Build social housing that is also not subject to right to buy. Let’s build communities with long term roots rather than those with the innate instability of private landlords.
comment in response to
post
I’m agnostic about how it is built and who owns it, but a public housing system is required. We are paying vast sums to private landlords, well in excess of social housing rents, to support those who cannot hope to buy.

One simple trick with building regulations that the government don’t want you to know.

And a reminder that we have only ever built enough houses to match need when we were building social housing at volume.

Include a raft of apprenticeships as well to help build further capacity in the industry.

That’s true. Watching some of the 1985 TotP eps and in a very strong year for the decade, there’s Russ Abbott. For weeks.

A lot of this is simple availability. A couple of clicks on Spotify brings you music fresh to your ears. As a young person, I’d have had to plumb the depths of R2 to find stuff of a comparable age that or dig out ancient records.

No. But it will be the final death knell for the party. They cannot out-Reform Reform and this is waving goodbye to a tranche of liberal voters for former Tory voters who are hard to get back and others unlikely to ever vote for anything other than Reform or similar.
comment in response to
post
It is a bad move, but how many of those Tories are left and would want to stand for this party? Let alone actual MPs who will have the spine to accept expulsion?
Cleverly? Tugendhat?

Err, you can mix NHS and private. We did during IVF to speed-up the process…

I didn’t think you could. (There are exceptions - if you need critical care from a private op, the NHS will pick up the pieces, obv)

Having just read an earlier story, it'll be about tutoring, I think: long stay paediatric patients are entitled to tutoring, but a hospital in Scotland told a private school family they weren't entitled to the service as they'd opted out of state education
