I loved SHADOW OF THE SITH b/c it gave me what I wanted from post-ROTJ Luke (and Lando!) and yeah, obviously would love to see more of Vader's voice / Palpatine's puppeteering affecting Ben.

Yep. Generally speaking, across the board, it felt like they had to hard reset the legacy characters to jump into a new story - Leia's back to being a politician, Han's a pirate again, Luke's stuck on a backwater planet, etc.

I always thought post-ROTJ Luke would be the guy, like Qui-Gon Jinn, to embrace attachment. To say the Jedi are supposed to care—to love—and recognize the light AND the dark within and strive to find the balance between them. But nope, he just follows the dogma of a failed system for 30 years.

I love that moment... too bad most of post-ROTJ Luke's great moments... aren't in the movies.

We need a new Death Star = Starkiller Base. We need a new Obi-Wan Kenobi = Luke Skywalker. We need a new Luke Skywalker = Rey. We need a new Darth Vader = Kylo Ren. We need a new Palpatine = Snoke, wait, let's just bring Palpatine back. I just wish there was more happening in the ST.

Not saying he can't be flawed or make mistakes, but to give Luke the same arc as Obi-Wan and Yoda, when the entire point of the character in the Original Trilogy was to succeed where they failed, was lazy and uninspired.

Yeah, and I'd much rather see DUNE 3 and RENDEZVOUS WITH RAMA... hopefully those still happen.

Well, it is a fictional "techno-thriller" ala The Da Vinci Code, so yes.

It's so damn good - another one that will be reappraised in a few years as a modern classic that went underappreciated too long.
