Not a song, an instrumental with the incomparable Peter Green - ā€œAlbatrossā€ I liked a lot of the later stuff too.

I haven’t spent as much time as I normally would (which is too much anyway) online. Had an eye operation 2 weeks ago, and reading has been an issue

Not a worry. My reply was meant to be light hearted.

That fascinated me as a kid. My limited scientific knowledge had me wondering if we could go to another galaxy, and see with a telescope, what really happened all those years ago

Dad would give me that science lesson occasionally when I cast a shadow over him ā€œGet out of my light son. The light has travelled for 93 million miles for the last 9 minutes (sic), to get to me,and you stopped it right there.ā€

Absolutely correct. I’ve known that since I was a child. Apologies for the brain fart

I know, that’s why I put ā€œa bit underā€ exact figures didn’t seem required

For clarification, the earth is actually a bit under 9 light seconds from the sun. In 2026 Voyager 1 will be the first to actually get 1 light day away from the sun.

Sorry I meant ā€œDayā€

Jenny does — in public anyway

This is one group where doxxing seems quite justified. They should be made to feel deeply uncomfortable in their own neighbourhoods

The stuff of nightmares. I have 5 sisters, all mad Carole King fans — all played that album to death. She’s a musical genius and her songs are great, but her voice now hurts my brain.

I put a solar panel next to my compost pile. Nothing, Nada, Zilch. I’ll never trust science again.🤣🤣🤣🤣

We had a bunch at our house for Australia Day, (January) The Newfoundlander went for a swim in our pool. (Are you out there Guy?)

I lived in Footscray with a couple of uni mates, and one of them’s family. Mum was German, Dad was Polish, one other was Scottish/Greek from Adelaide, and I was English/French, via Sydney. There were a load of regional accents just in that house 🤣
comment in response to post
I’ve often noticed that too. Regional Qld is different too.

Slight ain’t the word for it. I served in the U.S. with US and commonwealth service people. Newfie and QuĆ©bĆ©cois, strong French accents (awful French🤣) one from Baffin Bay, one from British Columbia were all different from my friend from Toronto.
comment in response to post
There are some regional differences, but all seem to fit pretty well within a limited range. One noticeable difference is in local names for things. A great source of Internet ā€œdiscussionā€

In places. A good proportion of it is the Nullarbor desert, and the arid areas of South Australia. I first drove that in the early 70s the South Australia side was unsealed for c500km. It took 100 metres before the wing mirror shook off.

3 or 4 days is pretty standard if you have a deadline. I knew one bloke drove solo from Sydney to Perth with no stops except for fuel and food. Bloody crazy

Yeah, but they recommend it on their ā€œbucket listā€ I moved to Florida Nov ā€˜80. Rugged up and cold, for dinner with some Canadians. One lady just wearing a Tee shirt. Temp that day in Fla, 50° F, Temp at her home in Baffin Bay, -70°F. Just NO!

As much as I understand that, the only way I know what the cookers are cooking is on Twitter.

You can keep your bloody winter…I live in Australia for a reason it’s 14°C here (nearly 60° F) and I’m bloody freezing.

We know. I would be 43 hours driving from my place to my daughter’s in Perth (I flew) 18 hours to Cairns (still not the furthest North) about the same to friends in Melbourne, 21 to Adelaide. We spent a year on the road circumnavigating and inland 53,000 km (33,000 miles)

And sometimes it is, like my wife 2 weeks ago, though it stopped before she went to hospital. On the other hand, I had no chest pain for three heart attacks.

All Hamas of course, because Israel only targets Hamas, and they are the most moral army in the world with the world’s best intelligence services

This was a couple of years ago for me. I was visiting my daughter in England. I tested clear 2 days before I was due to fly home. 6 week trip; 3 weeks sick. I lost 15kg. Every cloud has a silver lining

I hope the recovery keeps going well. Coffee was an important breakthrough for me. Jars of sliced peaches kept me going. I was left with RSV which spread to Carol. Not a nice disease.

Not ā€œEVERYā€ time, but every time it’s good clothes and messy food. A friend from my youth would always spill food on himself. We gave him heaps. At a friend’s wedding he stayed pristine, until a passing waitress tripped and spilt an entire bowl over him. We gave him heaps again
