I like a Yiddish book with a nice straightforward title. This one is called “The Jewish Cowboy (Novel)” and it’s a novel about Jewish cowboys. Art doesn’t get much better than that

David Ashworth, one of 10 survivors of the General Grant, a ship that wrecked off the Auckland Islands in 1866. The survivors were shipwrecked for 18 months on a deserted island until rescue. Ashworth later drowned trying to retrieve gold from the wreck of the General Grant. Ref O.005270, Te Papa.

As a web librarian I cannot stress enough how important websites like Te Ara, NZHistory, and the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography are for researchers of all kinds. These sites were built with the idea that they would exist in perpetuity for all New Zealanders to access.
