25% is the share of Canadians who have used cannabis in the past 12 months. If the U.S. bans anyone who has ever tried cannabis in their lifetime, then 63% of Canadians cannot visit the U.S. anymore.

I like short abstracts too, but disciplines vary. Medical journals often have 300-word (!) abstracts; the idea is that practicing MDs only read the abstract, so journals make it a mini-paper, & the main paper becomes almost an appendix.

Good question; I will study that next. I suspect (?) there was a similarly small initial drop on legalization day, but a different trend thereafter.

5. Overall, it seems cannabis legalization had only slight initial impacts on alcohol use in Nova Scotia. Thanks to NSLC for sharing its sales data, and to Lisa Ferrantelli & Skander Lazrak for their help!

4. The differences persisted when considering similarly-sized shops, or the proximity of cannabis sellers to alcohol-only shops. The combination of sales drops & gains might reflect a mix of substitution, co-use, & store-switching by consumers.

3. Across NSLC stores that sold only alcohol, total monthly sales averaged roughly $800K ⬇️ lower than before legalization. But across those that began selling cannabis, monthly alcohol sales instead totaled $300K ⬆️ higher! Differences were bigger for 🍺 beers & coolers than 🍷 wines or spirits.

2. After legalization, total NSLC monthly alcohol sales quickly dropped & then slowly recovered. From Oct 2018 to Feb 2020, they averaged about $500K (1.2%) ⬇️ below pre-legalization levels.

If you're the bottleneck, then set priorities & focus. Pick whichever paper will take the least time or energy to finish. Give it top priority in your workweek, deferring everything else that's not mandatory. After you've submitted it, give yourself a reward & catch-up on whatever you've deferred.

Canadian travel to the US has also dropped: in March, 13.5% fewer air travelers & 32% fewer by land. March school break week is traditionally when many Canadians take their kids south for vacation, e.g. to California or Florida.
