I'm not certain that's born of the same impulse.

the UN actually maintains a website for official terminology and nomenclature for consistent use of preferred names and terms. Really interesting stuff! unterm.un.org/unterm2/en/a...

Possibly because Türkiye had registered the new spelling as its official English-language name with a letter to the United Nations in 2021, and followed up with requests to other agencies like the U.S. Board on Geographic Names, whereas Sweden and Germany have requested no such change?

Don't get me wrong, I adore when United stumbles about, but my Toffees are wastrels of an altogether higher order

That MBTA stop in Sharon still looked exactly the same 25-30 years later.

This will surely not be a problem for seniors, like my Dad, who still refer to the whole of the Internet as their email.

Yikes sorry! I saw the Q but the sweepstakes part didn't register. I've already left the conference. Please choose someone else, or give it to a contingent scholar, grad student, or ECR/scholar from global South with my compliments. Thank you!

To answer @millennjournal.bsky.social's Q, my favorite is old school: Ashley (1988) "Untying the Sovereign State: A Double Reading of the Anarchy Problematique"

Please also attend the business meetings for the Teaching Centric Institution Caucus (3/3, 1230pm) and for the Education and Learning Section (ELIAS) (3/3, 6pm), and our joint reception (3/3, 7pm). We welcome newcomers--you do not need to be a member of either group. #ISA2025 #polisky #teachlearnsky

I'm sure I've told you all this before: in 1999, I was a TA in a course where the prof told an Everly Brothers joke. That look of utter confusion and disappointment he had on his face when the joke failed to land is something that I'm thinking about more and more often these days.

I still think about this story of David Lynch and his falling out with Woody Woodpecker at least once or twice per month.

Although i think a pizza oven would be great fun, i just haven't able to see my way clear to justifying the cost and counterspace. This was done in a regular not at all fancy kitchen oven; just a decent pizza stone and a lot of practice can get you pretty far. :)
