Too many people believe that we can have the same quality of public services as Scandinavia but have a taxation system which is more like that of the USA ✍️ Mike Hedges MS

Anywhere I've ever worked, fiddling your exes is grounds for instant dismissal

It was a lack of understanding about the difference between risk and uncertainty that helped create the 2008 financial crisis, and that is being seen now in pension fund management, and probably elsewhere in the City of London. That is profoundly worrying. www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/06...

EXACTLY WHAT BREXIT WAS ABOUT.the EU was setting up legislation AND investigations into the many many tax havens..which are CLOSED,SECRET,UNTOUCHABLE,SURROUNDED BY LOOPHOLES,INJUNCTIONSso WE the tax payers, who's money it is,CANT SEE THE £2TRILLION STASHED,AND THE LIST IF WHOS WHO,CORRUPTION ON SPEED

HMRC admits not collecting £40bn tax last yr. Others say over £100bn. Big accounting/law firms, banks mastermind tax dodges. Rarely prosecuted. No big accounting firm prosecuted; get govt contracts. Fewer than FIVE criminal cases brought in 2023-2024, 16 in 2018-2019. Govts chase little people.

2016 - 2023: 3m UK workers denied the minimum wage. 2008 - 2023: 21 employers prosecuted for underpaying the min wage, an additional case accepting a caution. No criminal prosecutions. No director personally fined. What if workers violate laws? Govts soft on corporate abuses.

UK govts made the rich richer. Billionaire wealth is 10 times larger than in 1990, built on speculation, inheritance, exploitation & regressive taxation. 16m Britons live in poverty. Real average wage unchanged since 2008. Can't rebuild economy without redistribution. Increase taxes on the rich.

The UK is in decline where money wields power. Normal people toil and are just voting fodder. Laws and policies are crafted to give the appearance of sternness and fairness, but are rarely fully enforced on corporations and the rich. Must end political corruption

"In Finland, charging fees for tuition is illegal, which means rich kids have to mix with normal kids, which means rich families had to make sure the school their kid went to was good which meant the rich were prompted to invest in public schools, Finland, take a bow." anonymous

CEO pay is up 1,085% since 1978, while typical worker pay is up just 24%.  Why do we always hear "we can't afford to pay our workers more" but never "we can't afford to pay our CEO more"?

So, the #BBC protected: - Jimmy Saville - Gary Glitter - Rolf Harries - Nigel Farage - Huw Edwards - etc But get rid of Gary Lineker !?!?!

Who Governs? JP Morgan threatened to quit UK over mooted tax rise for banks. CEO met Reeves/Starmer, tax didn't rise. Govt cut benefits, dept budgets; real tax rises for others. Corporations dodge taxes, bully govts and govern. Curbing their power is essential for any form of democracy.

Good for you Zack, rather than mumbling some shite about fiscal rules and black holes, let’s see how other people have dealt with the problem and sort it out #backzack

In 1990 nearly everyone had an NHS dentist. Now half the population have no realistic chance of finding one. Episode 3 of More Jam Tomorrow is about British teeth 👇 morejamtomorrow.com/episode/teeth

“Ultimately what we are now witnessing is the cumulative effect of greed on mankind. The destruction of nature for profit, the destruction of our democracy to serve the needs of the wealthiest among us.”

Today is World Bee Day. There are around 20,000 species of bees in the world, yet honey bees gets most of the fanfare. Here’s to the sweat bees, the leafcutter bees, the mason bees, the longhorn bees, the bumble bees, the carpenter bees, the squash bees, and all the rest of our unsung bee heroes!

Good on Graham Spiers👏👏

The government need to delink electricity from gas so that consumers can benefit from the true price of renewable energy @greenjennyjones.bsky.social While the government lacks the imagination to bring down bills, do agree with more public transport

Nick Clegg has a bloody cheek piping up at all. It was the austerity he enabled that is most responsible for Brexit & the continued unravelling of our social fabric. Then he swanned off to piss around at meta. Twat.

The polls are all over the place but it’s clear we are in a multi party climate across the UK with just points separating them all. The broadcasters need to reflect this yet they largely pursue binary narratives. We need to hear ALL parties working for us. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/71...

The problem with insisting that someone is strong enough to fight or defeat cancer is that it implies that others who aren’t strong enough are just not trying hard enough. Cancer doesn’t care if you have a strong will. And this attitude just makes things harder for the sick.

Today's agreement with the #EU is not a betrayal as our ever more headline hungry media is reporting, but level headed economic sense. Above all, it resets vital relations with our key trading and security partner - much needed in this evolving global landscape. Congratulations to #UK and EU.

To my mind Gary Linekar walked the talk of what should be BBC values. I think the corporation should be on the stand, not Gary.

Flexible/remote work is good, actually! When executives can’t make it work for their company, that’s a problem of leadership. Return to office mandates are about real estate costs and shitty bosses covering their asses - no matter what excuse they give. farmingdale-observer.com/2025/05/16/s...

I will never understand why curing cancer isn't the number one global priority for all of humanity. Instead we end up debating, prioritizing, and wasting valuable resources on stupid shit.

If you promised Brexit would be sorted in a day, we’d pay no divorce bill, it would make us global & grow our economy, the NHS would be fixed, it wouldn’t affect Northern Ireland, farming, fishing, travel, exports & imports - but you delivered the opposite, YOU are the one that betrayed Brexit.
