This is naked authoritarianism. It is exactly what happened in Turkey. There is nothing to stop this regime from demanding that faculty be purged too. Everyone must stand up and push back. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/27/u...

Thinking again about how the media turned Bill Clinton talking to AG Loretta Lynch for 15 minutes into a major scandal for Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election.

Amen

What the actual fuck is this framing @cnn.com “What we are seeing currently is the Trump administration trying to solve for existing hurdles in the immigration system for arresting and deporting people in large numbers.” HURDLES? Like human rights and the constitution? Go fuck yourselves.

Jan 6 prosecutors were fired because they upheld rule of law, securing convictions in court with beyond-a-reasonable-doubt proof of crimes against America, and that’s not the job anymore.

Remarkably strong correlation between pundits who told me the Supreme Court upholding Texas’s abortion bounty hunter law was technical and not a sign it would overturn Roe, and pundits assuring me birthright citizenship is fine because people can “just file a class action” or whatever

This War Powers vote wasn’t asking Congress if bombing Iran was a good move. And if any member of Congress thinks it’s called for in the future, they can vote to authorize force against Iran then. This vote merely asserted Congress’s Constitutional role. Fetterman et. al. voted against having one.

The Rogue Court vs Modern Democracy I wrote this two years ago, after the Court effectively abolished affirmative action. It’s even more obvious now: America can accept the Roberts Court as legitimate and its rulings as the final word - or it can have democracy in a pluralistic society. Not both.

(Rubs temples) ...Just vote to impeach him man. Like what?

I mean, if everything is going in the shitter, there’s no reason to have anti-gay people have all the fun; start making religious objections to all sorts of stuff. The Ten Commandments getting put into class all over, for instance. That’s at least 40% religious orthodoxy.

Is…is this….are they…tell me this isn’t an attempt at “Joe Rogan of the left”

Good point here - do we have to prove the egg and sperm that made us came from citizens or do adopted parents count? (If so…can I adopt a couple million “kids” of all ages?)

Make no mistake, the SCOTUS decision about birthright citizenship IS ALSO ABOUT *birthright citizenship.* The Court is using nationwide injunctions as the tail, wagging the dog, to take us back to an Antebellum view of citizenship. That way led to war once. My latest in @thenation.com

This is a a great first step. If Congress won't act, state legislatures should to ensure that law enforcement officers have (visible id), and (ideally) do not wear face coverings to hide their identity. It's crucial to ensure law enforcement acts lawfully and the public can trust them to do so

The Admin's argument against birthright citizenship is that the language of the 14th Am only grants it to people who are "subject to the jurisdiction of the US." How are people Trump wants to exclude not subject to US jurisdiction? Evidence is all around us. joycevance.substack.com/p/does-trump...

Just sending a hearty FUCK YOU to my senator.

It’s every parent’s nightmare, isn’t it? you check your child’s bulletproof backpack and find a picture book about gay penguins

I know people are used to what "originalists" do by now: But I will never accept the fact that these motherfuckers are literally citing the English High Court of Chancery as the ACTUAL REASON courts can't stop Trump takign away birthright citizenship.

there is no jurisprudence at work here. the republican court believes that anything a republican president is presumptively constitutional, even if it directly violates the unambiguous constitutional text and causes total chaos in law and policy.

1865. Or whatever. Tell me again history doesn't matter

If I'm running a news room now, I assign everyone who has done piece on Biden's final-years fitness-to-govern, and have them apply same standards here. (Once heard Bill Clinton give 45-minute ad-hoc on what diff *counties* in Arkansas had done in Civil War. Trump doesn't know WHAT YEAR it was.)

this should put to bed once and for all the bald faced lie that conservative jurisprudence is “textualist”

God help us all.

Pack the Court. If we are serious about the defense of these rights, we pack the Court. Simple as that. They pack it back, we pack it again. We do it until we reach consensus on long-term reforms to the judiciary. I don't know what it's going to take for people to get it.

Yeah I'm real comfortable with this guy making shit up about the Civil War on the same day the Supreme Court invalidates the 14th amendment

If you have one of these in your home, unplug it and take it to the nearest electronics recycling facility. No music player/kitchen timer is worth surrendering your privacy. #youarebeingwatched

Small things that make a big environmental difference: - shopping locally - eating a few plant based meals a week - riding your bike - not having your wedding attended via 100 private jets - composting

The Navy named a destroyer after Oscar Peterson in 1943, one year after he died. Pretty sure his family was aware of that honor even if Jake Tapper was not.

KBJ’s dissent in the injunction deserves to be canonical. I’ll confess I find it extremely irritating that the majority says, in effect, they don’t get it. “What’s going on there. Why is she being weird. We’re doing law here.” She is smarter and knows more about law than they do.

There is as much textual basis to argue that birthright citizenship applies only to children of the enslaved as there is that the 2nd Amendment applies only to weaponry that existed at the time.

Just to give a sense of how insane the birthright citizenship stuff is, this is what the constitution actually says about the matter. There is literally nothing controversial about it. Either 2+2=4 or nothing means anything.

This is a captured Court. A fascist Court. A corrupt cartel in black robes. They don’t serve the people—they serve power and an orange cosplay dictator.

Yes, this is bad for porn. But porn famously has no clear legal definition. As such: This is a direct path to censoring anything the GOP wants to censor and can argue is “adult” - info on birth control, queer identity, anything about trans people or gender diversity or safe sex or HIV or drag or

We’re supposed to believe forcibly stripping millions of Americans of their citizenship is prudent and conservative, but forgiving student debt is radical and unconstitutional?

Senator Tillis is literally showing his colleagues a chart of how many North Carolinians will lose health care if the GOP Medicaid cuts pass. His words: “This will be devastating to my state.” They know this will kill people. They just don’t care.

“Congress sold us out. The courts signed the death certificate. Democracy is bleeding out.” medium.com/@gxldsociety...

the president does not actually have the power to fire a university president or a museum director, but if elites simply roll over under pressure, then effectively he does

Hey @democrats.org @democrats.senate.gov @housedemocrats.bsky.social - ready to impeach Trump and expand SCOTUS yet? Or y’all still just gonna vibe it and hope you stumble back into the majority and find another excuse not to act?

Bless you

Posted this last night. Worth posting again. It is one thing to read and hear about people being kidnapped, far different to actually see it. These images must be seen, must be shared. The world needs to know how real and rampant it is now in America.

always have to remember the right will get hysterical over every issue of the day it does not matter about validity or truth it is all about feeding their constant outrage machine

Listen, I don't say this ever, but good on Ritchie Torres.
