Someone just stood up, got out a can of lynx and gave himself a full body spray on the Tube. I’ve seen a lot of things but that is a new one.

it's real!

Is this real? @chicago.suntimes.com ?

I'm 5 minutes in and I'm not convinced a 90-minute AI musical is really a very effective way to tell this, or indeed any, story

I did not have this on my bingo card today

I'll say this for the Star, at least they've stuck to shonky photoshops rather than resorting to AI generated images. A great British tabloid tradition

The shock of confectionary breaking the £1 barrier is real

Owners of 236,500 properties in England and Wales worth £64bn are hidden behind opaque trusts. Appeasement of the rich facilitates corruption, illicit financial flows. Compare this to how govts treat the poor. Soon their bank accounts will be snooped on.

Really enjoying* re-playing every argument from the Brexit Wars of 2014-16. *I am not enjoying it.

Read ‘em and weep… …Tory shadow ministers raging about UK giving up the ‘benefits’ of divergence that they could never find a use for, is peak Brexit delusion. But I fear it’s not going away.

“Brexit means we can make our own agreements with the EU, as we pick and choose!” - UK chooses to make agreement with EU on a handful of issues. “Brexit Betrayed!”

Stories about the UK’s supposed capitulation to France on fishing rights generally fail to mention fishing is about 1.5% of domestic GDP. That’s significant of course, but the other stuff being secured puts that in context.

In short, Starmer has taken a massive hit among Labour voters, for no gain elsewhere, while boosting Farage's popularity, including doubling his ceiling among Labour voters. I.e., the political scientists were right, Morgan McSweeney was horrendously wrong.

“FORTY NIIIIIIIIIIIINE MILES AN HOUR”

This is presumably after the "island of strangers" speech ?

"The suspect was traveling sooth on 56"

Absolute catnip for the political/economic data nerds here. That's a significant trend and underpins much of the Reform vote imho.

I don't want to diminish the importance of this debate, but I'm pretty sure Middlesex doesn't exist

I'm listening to a lot of Japanese jazz fusion at the moment, if you've ever doubted my performative middle aged muso status.

Who's your favourite Pokemon? Wrong answers only

@bsky.app needs to improve its page refresh times. If I'm going to procrastinate, sorry, be part of lively current affairs discussions on here every day, I want a constantly updating firehouse of updates. Currently my feed looks the same unless I continually refresh.

The speechwriters are smart enough to know that the average voter doesn't have the political / literary subtext to decode this

Linkrot is such a problem now and it's getting worse. Was trying to find something I wrote ages ago about newspaper circulation (based on Enders' doomy prediction about decline, which turned out to be too negative) and it's just gone. I know this is a much-discussed / covered topic but it sucks.
