Tech has entirely turned on the customer www.wheresyoured.at/never-forgiv...

Very cool to know Sam's dear friend is the national security advisor for the United Arab Emirates!

"I think it’s good to stay fully, even slightly foolishly, committed to the idea that humans doing human things, with other humans, is and will remain at the vital heart of human existence. Because otherwise what on earth’s the point?" ckarchive.com/b/zlughnhk87...

The most-discussed slide from the presentation I gave today. The November "take private" acquisition of EdTech giant, Instructure, best known for popular LMS, Canvas. It was the 7th largest PE acquisition of 2024.

Gen A.I. is designed to erode your critical thinking skills. Its sole purpose is to make you offload anything worth doing so you become reliant on it.

I don't think any single piece of information has ever radicalised me like reading the statistics on how many women have their husbands/boyfriends dump them because they got a terminal illness diagnosis

evreything worth living for is cringe your options are to embrace that or to die

every single AI reporter has to watch this youtu.be/fJGNqnq-aCA?...

Of the books named on this reading list, Brit Bennet, Isabel Allende, Andy Weir, Taylor Jenkins Reid, Min Jin Lee, Rumaan Alam, Rebecca Makkai, Maggie O'Farrell, Percival Everett, and Delia Owens' titles are all books that DO NOT EXIST!!! See Alt Text for more detail. Image by @tbretc.bsky.social

Her picks! Her patter! Her outfit! Her voice! 😍✨

I think a lot of the world's problems come from men who are sensitive trying to deny that they are sensitive.

Kind of crazy that we're getting instructions on rebellion from Disney+, but I'll take what I can get.

Crazy how long this conversation has been going on

Who's up for some petty kitchen-consumer snark?

our school asks for volunteer parents to "teach" for an hour during teacher appreciation week, which is a clever, practical way to advocate for a 400% raise. nothing on earth will make you appreciate teachers more than a single hour in a second grade classroom

This guy is evil but he's a genuinely great boss. Supportive, protects his team from shit work from above, gives great advice and has no time for kissarsery. You just *know* he ended up working for the New Republic. Also, Anton Lesser is always magnificent. #Andor

Heartwarming: The college freshman featured in the NYMag ChatGPT article who said she watched TikTok until her eyes hurt has since posted updates from her Reddit account (her username was included in the article). She said she is no longer using ChatGPT and finished her latest semester without it!

I have never used chatgpt, largely because I enjoy organizing my thoughts and communicating them with other human beings. I'm also very underwhelmed by chatgpt's actual writing, but if it could produce a better-written piece I wouldn't want it because the point is connection, not output.

I 100% would have used ChatGPT for homework when I was in school, because homework sucked ass. However, if I hadn't been forced to bullshit a lot of essays 15 minutes before class I wouldn't have learned that I enjoy writing. The moral is to destroy both ChatGPT and homework.

To better understand the current state of AI, it's best to think of it as meaning Automated Information. That's all it is. Information being offered by a program trying to figure out what you're asking for. Any flicker of intelligence you might see in its method is entirely from randomness.

People using AI to cheat is one thing but what’s even more alarming is people talking about how they talk to ChatGPT all day, how they use it to write text messages to their friends, how it has usurped their own humanity at a time when we need people to resist tech fascism. That’s the real horror

Brutal account of what it’s like to teach at the University of Florida right now in the NYT—extraordinary climate of fear. People afraid to say intersectional and talk about lynchings. Fake students trying to entrap Muslim faculty or just making things up altogether. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/07/o...

Everyone in the past was neurotypical, which is how we got things like this single-author, eight-volume encyclopedia of ferns

I am amused by the framing of this article because you may as well accuse me of refusing to use a flame thrower in my work. I'm not refusing, it is of no use to me because I am a non-fictition writer. That's all.

Truly, it’s as if the purpose of assigning papers is to generate papers.

Say it after me: Chat GPT is not a search engine. It does not scan the web for information, it just generates statistically likely sentences. You cannot use it a search engine, or as a substitute for searching. Now. Please never use an LLM for information searches ever again.

A reminder that every small bit of good you do - whether it be putting art into the world, helping a friend or stranger, donating to a good cause, or just listening to someone who needs to vent - offsets all the evil in the world just a little bit. And sometimes that's just what the world needs.

Oh my God

This word came into our lexicon last time, but it’s even more accurate this go ‘round.

"The quality of the will to power is, precisely, growth. Achievement is its cancellation. To be, the will to power must increase with each fulfillment, making the fulfillment only a step to a further one. The vaster the power gained, the vaster the appetite for more." —The Lathe of Heaven

People who drive Hummers are thankful for cybertrucks.

here’s a curse word free version of “look it up” as requested by countless teachers and librarians 🥰😘
