"70% chance that 5-year average warming for 2025-2029 will be more than 1.5 °C" says @wmo-global.bsky.social

Global average temperature is expected to rise to almost 2C above preindustrial in the next five years, according to the WMO, with falls in crop yields and more than a third of the world’s population being exposed to extreme heat. People, I'm sorry but we have to deal with this. Later is too late.

The Labour government’s plan for economic growth, public service reform, and thus its electoral hopes, rest on the country adopting AI. But its strategy of breathlessly bigging up bleeding-edge AI and pursuing massive data center investments is not cutting through to voters, MPs fear.

I feel sick. I feel angry. I feel so, so sad. What a legacy, @albomp.bsky.social. I'll NEVER forgive what you've done to this country and our future. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-05...

Nick Clegg says asking artists for use permission would ‘kill’ the AI industry

Every year, 100s descend on Cooper's Hill in Gloucestershire, England, for the annual cheese rolling contest. The 1st person down the 591-foot hill wins the wheel of cheese they’re all chasing. Yesterday’s race went entirely as expected. (🎥 Ryan Scott)

A man called Iain Clifford Stamp runs a scam which promises people he'll magically eliminate their mortgage (for a hefty fee). Tomorrow he's up at Southwark Crown Court for a contempt of court hearing. His defence may be the weirdest any UK criminal court has ever seen.

New post just out: "What would a Reform government be like?" It's time to take the prospect seriously + stop treating them like mere insurgents against the establishment. It's giving them a free pass to attack without ever having to defend. (£/ free trial) open.substack.com/pub/samf/p/w...

THERE WAS A SPELLING ERROR. THIS HAS BEEN RECTIFIED

Shame on West Point for inviting a draft dodger, who views the US military as merely props to be used for his own glory, to give its commencement speech. With no respect, the tacky wheezing fool wore a campaign ball cap and rambled on about yachts and trophy wives to the bored graduates.

Be more like Julian Assange and stand with Gaza. There is never an excuse to slaughter, murder and killing of children. Stop Israel and hold them accountable for genocide #FreePalestine If my posts of stop genocide angers you, know your silence angers me and you need to reevaluate your morals

We need to talk about the Telegraph. Not mentioned in this piece: 'businessman' Robert Hersov coined phrase 'South Africa First' Self-styled MAGA head, Hersov also attended Paul Marshall-funded ARC conference in London earlier this year www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/05...

Listening to Brexiters is to see a group of people who haven't changed as the world/country around them has. That's Starmer's gamble. Then as now, they continue not to reckon with a simple truth: we still need the EU more than they need us. New from me goodallandgoodluck.substack.com/p/brexiters-...

Outstanding from Lammy. Impossible to tolerate the moral oblivion into which Netanyahu has dragged Israel.

McGovern: "You are literally taking food off kids' plates to buy Elon Musk another yacht. I guess he's getting a good return on his campaign donations ... this is not policy. This is theft."

Good news! The bonuses Thames Water were planning to payout from the £3bn emergency loan have been withdrawn, the Environment Secretary has confirmed, as he accused Thames Water of calling the payments something else to try and get around a ban on bonuses. 1/2 www.theguardian.com/business/202...

The horror show of xenophobia that was #PressPreview tonight. 80 million Europeans are apparently coming, they are bringing their families, they will slip away and not return when their visas expire, because - as everyone in that studio seems to agree - Europeans just cannot be trusted. Poor. ~AA

"For about an hour" was, in fact, for seven-and-a-half minutes each, with the UK PM getting the last word, then leading a Q&A session with media. But this is such an excellent example of the mendacious, awful, biased reporting that has been the hallmark of the entire Brexit debate for a decade. ~AA

To the cartoonist who drew this, well done.
