Exclusive: A survey of 1000s of health workers finds that the majority believe making rents more affordable would reduce the strain on NHS. Most also say that they often see children with health problems made worse by insecure housing: www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home...

It’s not hyperbole to argue that the housing crisis in London has become a genuine emergency. I commend the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, for his leadership in bringing forward plans to release low-quality grey belt land in the capital and for exploring bold solutions to ramp up housing delivery.

An anniversary worth marking. I'm sure we're going to see the very people who have trashed its legacy seek to appropriate WW2 today - so let's remember what was really fought for: peace, a more united Europe, a land fit for heroes (mark 2) and the defeat of fascism.

This extraordinary image was reproduced in the school history books of my childhood and I remember how powerful I found it then. The context has changed but the message is just as powerful today

This was so good-smart and funny. And lovely to see @robertkhan1.bsky.social back in action and getting the acclaim he deserves as author.

It's disability benefit cuts more than WFP Labour needs to worry about in seats where it faces Reform. If the current plans go through unchanged, by 2029 *everyone* in seats like Runcorn will know someone who has lost a health benefit who they see as 'deserving' www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

Insane briefing! Taking £4500 a year from a million people doesn’t go far enough!

Jim is a teacher and a leader at a big successful multi-academy trust. He’s also independent-minded and always worth listening to…

And are these diversity officers in the room with you now Andrea?

Great news for the weekend. New York's Blue Note will be coming to St Martin's Lane. This is what Westminster After Dark is all about. www.westminster.gov.uk/news/decisio...

Good lord.

I think this is broadly right.

Jenkyns v misleading here. France houses 100,000+ asylum-seekers *not* in tents. People in tents have been refused housing because asylum claims finally refused UK does the same. asylumineurope.org/reports/coun...

Modern England is a tapestry of various cultures, faiths, histories and influences—bound together by the values of democracy, decency, fairness and respect. We cannot be complacent amid a concerted effort to normalise views that were once rightly consigned to the fringes.

You know what would really impress Reform curious Labour voters? Building more [council] housing. Let's do that. From @steveakehurst.bsky.social great research.

Good news here from Rightmove data - showing an increase in properties to rent coming onto the market. This suggests that fears about the Renters' Rights Bill isn't causing many landlords to sell up, despite what some landlords' bodies have claimed.

Great day in Runcorn & Helsby campaigning for Karen Shore with @queensparkkaren.bsky.social @hammersmithandy.bsky.social @sharonhodgsonmp.bsky.social & others campaigning for @uklabour.bsky.social

Happily it seems that some things do just…work.

A timely and urgent final message. We will miss Francis, but I thank God for him.

I find this unbelievably grotesque. Visually it’s so strongly reminiscent of a concentration camp — the bunks, the lack of clothing, the skinniness of some of these guys. Imagine doing a thumbs-up in front of that.

This question is essentially pointless unless people are also polled on *how* they would like it to work. Would it apply to under 18s? If so would teenagers have to carry ID to show exemption? Would cyclists have to carry proof of license? The whole idea is bonkers, which is why no one does it.

Ten peers plotting to derail Renters' Rights Bill are landlords inews.co.uk/news/ten-pee...

Avenues Youth Project is so important to the north Paddington community- brilliant to see this support from @london.gov.uk @sadiqkhanlondon.bsky.social @georgiagould.bsky.social @citywestminster.bsky.social

There must be accountability - not a cover-up - for the 15 humanitarian workers killed by the IDF. I paid tribute today to the importance of bearing witness - from the brave paramedic who filmed the attack & lost his life - to my 2 friends & colleagues detained & deported from Israel over the wknd.

New GR research on tenancy deposits - what problems tenants face and what we can learn from other countries. These are the first reports from a year long project funded by @financialfairness.bsky.social

If the 2008 global crisis stemmed from a financial system that was too clever/complex to be easily understood, even by those who operated it, what’s happening now is the exact opposite. It’s too stupid to be believed.

@jonnelledge.bsky.social @lewisbaston.bsky.social Truly, my cup of fascinating historical/political/geographic borders related literature written by nice people runneth over.

When they came for the penguins, I said nothing….

On behalf of the rest of the world - for example, workers in Bangladeshi textile factories about to be thrown into acute poverty - I'd like to point out that hurting American workers is not the real tragedy. They'll be okay. Others won't.

A blatant attempt at vote-buying backfired spectacularly. What a good piece of news to wake up to.

Welcome to the world of the absurd. Housing Benefit is frozen, leaving less than 3% of the rental market accessible to those in need. Homelessness skyrockets. Local government foots the bill, spending £2.3bn keeping people homeless in temporary accommodation www.theguardian.com/money/2025/a...

Good news. We're investing in Paddington Arts to extend the building with a new dance studio and performance space for local young people. This backs Westminster Council's commitment to the North Paddington Creative Enterprise Zone. www.westminster.gov.uk/news/council...

Support from our @london.gov.uk Mayor of London Sir Sadiq Khan for Hans Zimmer music and film hub on site of BBC Maida Vale studios in @citywestminster.bsky.social

These are the choices a council can make- investment in the people and places that need it most. It’s been brilliant playing a small part in it, watching it happen and seeing the change it makes.

Shocked but not surprised.

As the holy month of Ramadan comes to an end, I’d like to send my warmest wishes to everyone celebrating Eid in London and around the world.

Coldplay ‘Fix You’. The La’s ‘There she goes’. Cranberries ‘Linger’. ‘Imagine’, obviously. Dirges all. Anything *at all* with the word lady in the title.

So good to see investment which recognises the economic benefits of the creative sector alongside all the other ways creativity enriches and educates us.

This is great community investment, in an area that really needs it (and which saw many services lost in earlier years) 👇
