I see people saying stuff like "why criticize Substack but give other problematic platforms (like, say, YouTube) a pass? Which is a fair point. Thing is, YouTube is a quasi-monopoly for sharable video. Substack wants to have a newsletter monopoly but isn't there yet. And it should never happen.

In Florida schools start in August specifically to be open for kids so they have a place to be with AC during really hot days. As a kid (and adult until a couple of years ago) who grew up without AC, school was the only dependable relief from heat.
