#Nicholaslab student left her poster for @UCIrvine #urop by the door last night and couldn't find it today for her presentation. The lab manager came through and found it in the dumpster!! Crisis averted!

Saw this in the fridge and was Hella confused until I remembered it's the name of my undergrad. 😆

We’re thrilled to be featured on the May cover of Nature Microbiology... And our Research Briefing is out now—check it out, it’s 🔥! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Up one min and down the next. Reworking funding plans after losing support for a student. I'm so tired 😫 Of all the things why would they target the youngest and must vulnerable

Herculean effort by the Wiles lab @UCIBioSci Congrats to the entire team and the first author postdoc Liz for this amazing cover art! Proud of #Nicholaslab members Naveena and Julio for the small role we played in this groundbreaking work

#Nicholaslab grad student talk at #aai2025 The last day but not the least. Check out a cool project on pituitary macrophages!

Day 2 of presentations by the #Nicholaslab Check out posters by 2 amazing grad students and an undergrad who have been werking!! The focus is on the immune systems role outside of clearing pathogens. #women's health and #Cancer #aai2025

The #Nicholaslab is at #aai2025 Find my trainees today to learn what we've been up to the past couple years. Check out posters by Naveena Ujagar, Gabriela Sanchez and a talented undergrad in the lab Josh Kim.

I ❤️ my students. I've had the best time teaching cell & molec bio and advanced immuno. My students are smart, hard working engaged and really a joy to teach this year. This cohort is gonna be hard to beat.

I've found myself making lots of sweets for the #Nicholaslab lab lately. Yesterday we had rice crispy treats. Just because. The world is crazy but my team is awesome

Staying committed to celebrating the wins. Extremely proud of my students for submitting fellowships today. Their hardwork despite a demoralizing atmosphere didn't go unnoticed.

"There will be plenty who will try to tell you that you are not good enough or don’t belong in science." - Dr. Dequina Nicholas (@quinascience.bsky.social) 💬 Behind every #immunologist is a different research journey. Read their inspiring stories: bit.ly/42rlV9C

This..except 6 yrs ago

Today I received the best course evaluations ever since I started teaching. Not because they were all positive but because they were all so thoughtful. I have clear actionable feasible and logical items to improve student learning next year and know exactly what to do ;) Thanks

A sneak peak into my state of mind the last couple weeks. I lost my office keys and work badge for 4 days...wait for it.... On my desk, in lab, where I worked everyday

The slap in the face part feels accurate. www.insidehighered.com/opinion/view...

Last day to submit an abstract for posters @SoCalFlow Early bird registration prices are also ending. socalflow.org Dont miss the opportunity to apply for a scholarship for #flowcytometry training. Join me April 7/8 for cool science + flow techniques + networking

I cried in front of 4 different faculty members yesterday for various reasons. Happy to be at an institution where I wasn't judged for it. #mood

New report shows that NIH grants fueled $95 billion in economic activity and 407,782 jobs in 2024. That's not to mention the countless lives that biomedical research has saved. Show me a better investment than that. www.forbes.com/sites/michae...

Huge congrats to Rayyan Gorashi on her first author Science Advances @science.org paper! She discovered the Y-linked UTY gene modulates male-specific valve myofibroblast phenotypes - both X and Y chromosomes modulate cell phenotypes! 🤯 Link: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... @jacobsschool.bsky.social

Someone please tell me I'm not the only person who anxiously checks journal submission sites daily after submitting a manuscript. 2 weeks out waiting on the editor decision.

Check out the latest episode on the Podcast Inflammatory Content! We have to ##StandUpForScience anyway we can. Share with those outside your scientific community and let's change the narrative. #science is good and benefits society

One of the most powerful moments of the day came from Emily Whitehead who told the story of how she was the first pediatric patient to receive CAR T-cell therapy for her leukemia at age 5: “I stand up for science because science saved my life. And that’s a fact.” @standupforscience.bsky.social

Never imagined that scientists would have to protest that science is good. Yet here we are #StandUpForScience Keep pushing back

Anyone @ucirvine.bsky.social have a really tall ladder that the #Nicholaslab can use??? We're not trying to call facilities. Lol. Once we get a ladder you'll see what it is for. :)

I have been talking to the media, Time, Fortune, NBC, etc., to explain how the onslaught on science and NIH will impact the health of all Americans. Everyone knows someone who has cancer, heart disease, or depression. Spread the word about how cutting science impacts all. time.com/7216299/nih-...

Guess the theme for K2’s birthday party?!

Update. Surgery went well. Getting discharged today. Nir Drayman legit saved my life and I'm so grateful he acted so quickly. Now to recover.

#HappyValentinesDay Made these treats for the #Nicholaslab but didnt get to see them enjoy it. Thank you @NirDrayman for acting quickly to get me to the hospital. Emergency surgery but Im good. Deja vu to when my now husband sat with me in the hospital when we first met. ❤️ him

Submitted my first grad student's 1st first author paper! That's a first for me. Not letting current circumstances steal #Nicholaslab joy. Congrats Naveena and team on this milestone #newPI

As a leader in my lab & various initiatives, I’ve made my stance clear....my commitment to DEI is unwavering. I won’t back down or shy away, even as others do. I’ll continue to uphold and advocate for these values.

Call for abstracts! Research is under attack but we can push back by moving technology forward. #flowcytometry allows detection of blood cancers and advancement in technology is leading to new discoveries that are the basis cancer cures. Socalflow.org

Today... my 4yr old told me that she is the only smart person in the world. 😆 I asked her what about mommy. She said yeah. I asked her what about daddy. She said no. Lmao 🤣

Today they went nuclear. Imagine all firefighters were told "You all still have salaries, but as of today the government will no longer pay for building maintenance, firetruck maintenance and repair, hydrant upkeep, or admin assistants." That's what they're doing to US universities.

This is a full on assault on education. The US is the world leader in innovation research, technology only because we as a society support it. Without support for world leading research, we will brain drain and the best and brightest will go where research thrives www.statnews.com/2025/02/07/n...

Noted. Performative vs commitment. I'm done with hopeless and sadness. Now I'm angry www.science.org/content/arti...

I keep feeling like crying at the state of the US. I baked cookies this morning. The sugar is wearing off already.

Still grounding myself in the chaos. Sometimes you just wake up and bake a cobbler #scientistswhobake
