Analysis | The 2024 election was always about bombing Iran.

The thing is, every action post WW2 has been without the congressional war powers. It's basically a dead letter at this point, and there's just no way to use *this* in particular for impeachment.

The U.S., notoriously passive and bombing another country because someone made us do it

If we take seriously the example of how new media disrupted Europe after the printing press became common, we're speedrunning into the 30 years war part.

Who knew my and Matt Gaetz are 100% in agreement on Middle East policy. I mean, if he touched me, I'd still break whatever he touched me with, but you know, that's how stupid this administration is.

Micheal (Mike) Christopher (Chris) Matthew (Matt) and Jason. These are some of the most popular names for boys in the 80s and 90s. Just going to point out, that if you ICE going after someone, yelling "Mike! is that you? WTF are you doing Mike?" the odds are not terrible.

There's such a large contingent of the weirdly stupid, emphasis on weird, on bluesky that I wonder if it's left coded bots for some reason.

Since NYT covered it, @quinn.yoyodyne-it.eu wrote on US harassing Karim Khan via Microsoft last month. The Death of the Internet and Karim Khan's Inbox www.emptywheel.net/2025/05/22/d...

After posting this, I have a question, is anyone looking at the data for how hot days (more common with climate change ofc) adversely affect worker productivity?

People have no idea what the difference is between forms of news media anymore. The rolls of a magazine vs a news site vs a newspaper vs a web only newsletter, y'all can't tell the difference, and it's fascinating.

the only reason CBS hasn't folded and paid Trump his bribery money yet is California threatened an investigation into whether such a deal would violate state bribery laws, which chuck here "forgets" to mention

This is relevant in Europe too, of course, but the messaging isn't there yet. Europe still doesn't understand deadly heat.

Ah, the guy who told Meredith Whittaker That Signal would have AI, no matter what she thought, was also out here telling Angelenos how to face down LAPD.

Use Signal. We promise, no AI clutter, and no surveillance ads, whatever the rest of the industry does. <3

'Meredith,' some guys ask, 'why won't you shove AI into Signal?' Because we love privacy, and we love you, and this shit is predictable and unacceptable. Use Signal ❤️

It's just under a 100f right now where I am and my garden is trying to tank it, with various levels of success. My little fern garden on the other hand... It's like oh, you want to fuck with us? Bring it, you holocene pansy, we survived the Permian.

I always hear “I’m not a cat” in Hank Hill voice

This framing is beneath contempt. The Christian right and MAGA launched an unprecedented assault on the civil rights of a tiny minority and successfully weaponized the pseudoliberal establishment - led by the NYT - to provide it with a medical controversy pretext that doesn’t actually exist.

It's time to dead letter most of IP.

When you respond to racism and fascism with snap judgements based on what you see people wearing in media you're doing that thing we'd like the MAGA people to stop doing.

This drives me insane. The idea that we can't live without cars and factories and whatnot that are actually killing us constantly makes me feel like I'm living in a giant mental ward.

If Republicans Scarborough and Drucker are praising your Democratic "centrist" candidates as "perfect," be worried.

Do you believe me yet? www.emptywheel.net/2020/11/03/w...
