There is NO POLITE WAY to protest. Never has been and never will be.

You *must* swallow your impulse to parse and nitpick and find fault with protestors’ actions right now. We need solidarity so badly. It’s literally all we have. I am begging you, as a mother of 2 kids who is terrified of martial law, to find it in yourself to support the protestors. We need you.

Union leaders are calling for a strike to shut down LA. 🔥

I genuinely feel like I'm going insane when I read a story like this. What are you talking about

Pepperball projectiles. Percussion grenades. Tear gas, CS gas. Pepper spray. Foam baton rounds. LBD-40s. Marker rounds. I’m guilty of the “less lethals” language as a kneejerk catch-all for these items in the moment, but Luke is right. Time to get specific and stay specific.

seems great that the DNC is arguing about some leaked texts thats exactly what a strong opposition party would do right now

Maxine Waters is 86 years old. I would love to know where Newsom is.

America if the news covered it like those countries Over There

Thread. As a private investigator I often get asked if I work with the police. To which is a resounding, “NO.” It is not like tv. I stay the hell away from them as much as possible. If I absolutely need something? Yes, I have contacts. We have shared information. But nothing like what you see.

I am walking around my city with a passport. We’ve been watching for weeks as ICE inundates this place. My Pop was frozen as ICE came down their block parading their unchecked power. Anyone judging these protests should think about what it’s like to live in the escalation of all this.

Former LA City Councilman Mike Bonin painting a dark picture of a permanent military occupation of Los Angeles.

I see posts saying protesters aren't brutalized under Dems. I guess right-wingers aren't the only ones fantasizing about a mythical past. I was brutalized at protests under Obama. Folks were brutalized at protests under Biden. We can condemn the escalations of the present w out fetishizing the past.

Now: a couple hundred people marching in Pilsen, Chicago, to protest recent ICE raids and kidnappings

Why are there soldiers at a peaceful march?

This is an “insurrection” to the trump White House. They aren’t satisfied with protests being peaceful, they don’t want them to exist at all

Trump has ordered the violence you vapid dipshit.

Yes. I have heard this from both liberal and conservative people with sources inside the agency. It’s not just the pushback, it’s also that many officers want to believe they’re targeting the “bad guys” and this admin is telling them “screw you, grab families.” Genuinely, morale is way down.

When you see liberal scolding of protest, just send them this message below. Do not split.

"is what I think it is" fascism is here

The violence is coming from the guys in uniforms with guns. You attack people, people will defend themselves.

The illegitimate, lawless, and authoritarian regime in control of the government of the United States is at war with the people of the United States.

They're tear-gassing babies in strollers and elderly Chicano community leaders in Los Angeles. This is a completely peaceful march.

it's absolutely important to couch every statement from this guy in the context that he hired a person based solely on the credential that the guy strangled one of my neighbors to death. no background in software or finance, just murder.

This industry loves to wax poetic about free speech and holding truth to power, right up until someone in power gets upset

The Right Way To Protest is to stand very still in your apartment and whisper “I wish this wasn’t happening” then get your ass to work, you’re gonna be late damn it

see also: the belief in this thing called a “peaceful protestor” that, if facing arrest or violence from police, anyone can prove they are

Worth noting LBJ used the National Guard to protect and expand civil rights; DJT is doing exactly the opposite.

An extremely cursory examination of the scholarship on deplatforming shows that it works. I can't stop you from publishing on substack, but I am disappointed in you if you do. And I will personally never pay a penny to any substack.

lmao 💀

The weird, often whitewashed way the civil rights movement is taught (or not taught) seemed to convince a lot of people that nonviolence was met with nonviolence, instead of you know, dogs, hoses, beatings, death, etc

All of the talk about "peaceful protest" makes me think of all the times I have been part of a protest where the police cracked someone over the head and then charged that person with assault. They will call you violent. You can't control that or other people.

Parents and teachers in southern California are urgently asking for help to find a fourth grader who is being “held captive” by immigration authorities in Texas.

My dad, who has lived under a dictatorship, knows one when he sees one. His first text this morning is that we are now officially in a dictatorship. It is all pretty grim.

The same people criticizing the protestors who protect their neighbors from violent abduction will ask “Why isn’t anyone doing anything?” This is doing something. And resistance isn’t palatable or polite. When you are resisting violence, there aren’t always nonviolent solutions

Don't let Trump and Musk's feud obscure their fundamental agreement: Both men and the party they own are committed to taking as much as possible from Americans who need help in order to give to those who have more than they could ever want www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Nope. Too many people in the Trump orbit - lead by Stephen Miller - want to expand federal power and crave a violent confrontation with their perceived enemies. This is NOT a distraction. It’s a deliberate policy choice.
