I tend to think the people who get the most defensive are the ones who are more likely to be trans themselves - so I think continuing to push the issue actually makes them retreat and makes them take longer to come to grips with it.

I do think introspection is good. It's not like I don't mention when someone has eggy tendencies or vibes or point out when a "cis" friend has a lot of trans oomfies.
But I've also run into people who get really defensive if you even insinuate that they could be trans, so you can only do so much.
